About Robert J. Bloomberg, MD, PhD

My primary care practice emphasizes a mutually productive relationship between my patients and me. I believe the most effective healthcare is delivered when the patient receives a prompt response by the physician who knows them best along with the clinical technology that complements close examination and assessment.

My MDVIP-affiliated practice offers services, including comprehensive, advanced health screenings and diagnostic tests, that go far beyond those found in concierge medicine practices. I partner with my patients to review and discuss the results in detail and outline a comprehensive plan of action. This process is especially designed to help better identify earlier signs of cardiovascular and other underlying diseases. We have sufficient clinical insight and study results to help our patients better avoid stroke, heart attack and peripheral vascular disease. With sufficient pursuit and diagnostic evaluation, we should also be able to identify the development of other underlying illnesses so that earlier detection can increase the likelihood of optimal management.

After 43 years of conventional practice in Tempe, Arizona, I believe the MDVIP model of personalized medical care serves the interest of each patient as we partner to encourage the best from each other.

I miss Dr Bloomberg (father), he was my primary care doctor for years. He never had enough time for me but, he was somehow knowledgeable, the only one that showed up better skills as a doctor. After he privatized “more” his clinic, everything was a nightmare for me; he hired Dr Bradley Gonik, the worse dr ever, must be fired. The staff were rude and unprofessional during this difficult time. Could be a positive experience at the end, but the patients that didn’t pay the annual privatization fee were treated as a garbage, directly to the garbage can.

Shu has been my nurse practitioner for 12 years under Dr. Bloomberg. She is extraordinary and really cares about her patients. However I am very sad that I can no longer be a part of Dr. Bloomberg's care because I do not have an extra $2000 dollars a year to pay directly to his office each year. I already pay $700 a month for my medical insurance plus my prescription plan. I have moved on and have a new primary care giver who doesn't put money ahead of caring for their patients. I am truly sad this has happened. Respectfully submitted Diana Loose

I see Sue Hsieh as my primary care provider and she is amazing. She always comes up with the most effective treatment plan and very patient with my questions and requests. She also goes above and beyond to in providing great advice that emphasizes good life and dieting styles, which benefits my well being both physically and mentally. They also have blook work and ultrasound onsite, which really makes it convenient for the patient. I would recommend their practice to anyone who is looking for PCP or would like to seek medical consultation for other health matters. If the conditions are out of their scope, they will provide the best referral for further consultation and treatment, so you know you are in good hands.

I recently started going to this practice as I moved from another state and needed a new PCP. NP Shu has been the most thorough, attentive, kind, and detail-oriented person I have been cared for by in the medical field. She realized some underlying issues I hadn't noticed the very first time we ever met, and has been so helpful in each follow up appointment for next steps and education. Bloomberg Medicine is lucky to have her on the team!

I made an appointment and paid my bill on the same day. Two weeks later on my appointment day they say they have no record of my appointment. They had no problem taking my payment but could not keep their scheduled appointment time. The staff is rude has no empathy and only cares about money not their patients wellbeing.

This is a super busy office. I was checking in for an appointment and the girls at the front desk were all over the phones answering them and helping the callers as much as possible ALL while helping me make sure I was checked in correctly.

I've had no issues whatsoever. As with any doctors office, there is a wait time. It's not too crazy. The staff is friendly and efficient.

I love this office! The front office and medical assistants are always kind a professional! I see the PA Brittany and she has been absolutely amazing! She takes the time to listen to my concerns and explains things to me in a way that is easily for me to understand . Brittany is so personable, I feel like I’ve know here forever. I have been a patient here for 11 years and I am so thankful to have found such a great group ! If you’re looking for a primary care team that really puts the patient first ,this is the group to come too!!

This place never respected my time. I have a telehealth appointment today, 10 min after my appointment should start, the doctor's assistant called me saying the doctor will be with me in 15 min. I waited for ONE HOUR and called them and the office closed. Save yourself and skip them. They don't know how to respect people.

This office is terribly managed and highly disrespectful to their patience. They have a very poorly trained front desk who puts clients on hold and ignores them for up to 20 minutes. I would recommend going to another practice and the front desk should be fully reprimanded.

Definitely would not recommend this office if you want good patient care!! Have been a patient for many years and I am needing a temporary refill on a med that I have been on for years and they would rather me be off of it for 30days than to refill it!! I always get my yearly bloodwork but unfortunately was not aware it was due and am going out of town for a month but need a refill on my med and they will not refill without the bloodwork!! Tried to explain the circumstances and that I don’t have the time to get bloodwork done before I leave and just asked if I could get a 30day refill and once I got back in town I would get my bloodwork done but they said no!! Hope I have no serious reactions to not having my meds for 30days because this will be on them!!

Very happy with Dr. Bloomberg till he became active with MDVIP and you have to pay $2000 a year up front to see him. So, if I see him for an annual checkup, it cost me $2,000 plus he gets paid by my insurance. That is disappointing to me for a doctor who, supposedly cares....that's looking for money first before patient care.

Easily 5 stars for Brittany West. She is kind, thorough, and helpful.
I gave 2 stars because the office staff and billing is completely incompetent and rude. They don’t greet you when you come in and make a ton of mistakes. They charged me $116 my first visit when my copay was $10. When I questioned it and asked for a refund they said that money is for my deductible, I told them they don’t get to make that choice for me and got a refund (which is what my insurance advised me to do)
On another visit I was billed for Diabetic counseling. I never received diabetic counseling since I’m not diabetic!
I’m seeing on several low star reviews that having things billed that never occurred is a common issue at this office.
Pay attention to your bills/statements!

My partner has received completely unsupportive, heartless, and unsatisfactory care from Dr. Bloomberg for years. He completely accepted this treatment for too long not knowing any better or that he deserved to be treated at least like another human being. I am appalled at the stories he has told me, from thoughtlessly prescribing medication to completely minimizing experiences. I wouldn’t recommend Dr. Bloomberg or this practice to my worst enemy. You’re better off finding another provider if you’re looking for someone with empathy that actually cares about you and your health.

My first appointment with my new UnitedHealthcare Medicare package! To make an appointment - earliest was 3 months from now - Dr Bloomberg charges you $80.00 so you wont be a no-show. I thought they would actually take your card info and charge it you don't show up but no they actually charge you and then refund it 3 months later when I show up. In addition this is just an appt to establish care - your second appt is when he will actually give some form of care. Not an impressive start...........
UPDATE........I talked with numerous friends about this business model and all agree Dr Bloomberg could take my Visa info and not charge anything unless I dont show up which is what all Hotels do. In addition, having to make two appointments to receive care is a money grab from insurance companies. I gave this information to the Insurance Company who recommended Dr Bloomberg and they are also surprised. Dr Bloomberg can do better.....

Hi, I want to report one of your employees working at the front desk named Dariana Cruz. I'm a Junior student in ASU. I had an appointment with a Doctor in this morning at 11 o’clock. When I came to the front desk, she was so unfriendly, no Hello, no basic greeting, which is fine. But when she told me my insurance card was inactive, my boyfriend asked her, do you know the reason? She said: “I do not know what that is.” which was what I called an insurance card. Then she said: “you guys can choose to pay $100 today or make another appointment.” Then, my boyfriend asked her, do you know how can we do to make the insurance card be active? She said it again, I don’t know, You guys can choose to pay $100 today or make another appointment. It makes me feel uncomfortable, bad, it feels like she wants us to get out quickly. I have been to your hospital many times, I like the environment and doctors, but the attitude of Ms. Dariana makes me disappointed. I’m a patient, staff working in hospitals should be more polite and patient with patients.

What a scam! Watch what they bill your insurance!! Wouldn't that be fraud?

Staff is incredibly rude from start to finish.

Hope you don't need an on call doctor because nobody will pick up nor call you back. When the doctors office opened up I called and the receptionist could have cared in the least. Was on hold and a medical assistant would call back in 24-48 hours!

Do not trust your life with this firm.

I have been a patient since before 2006. The last three appts were the worst experience I have had. Two years ago 1 hour 20 minutes late.
Last year I actually waited just under 3 hours before Dr. Bloomberg came in. (I was recovering from Covid and needed a check up.) Then I came in for a physical a few months later and after waiting over an hour I for a 2:00 appt. I walked up the desk and said I am going - I live 40+ miles from the office and i do have my own schedules to keep. No exaggeration 3 hours is basically unheard of. I really liked Dr. Bloomberg but I can not waste my time sitting in a office waiting -

It's a well kept, pleasant office. They demonstrate their commitment to patient health by keeping track of their patients' annual health checks and monitoring ongoing medical conditions as needed. The front office staff is friendly and efficient and I think that speaks well for the tone the physicians set.

I have confidence in the actual medical treatment I receive but some of the more personal aspects I expect from a primary care practice may be lacking. Perhaps the practice has gotten too big and/or too many administrative requirements. E.g., when requesting a recommendation for outside specialist (my insurance doesn't require an actual referral), I expect to be able to get a name or several from the physician, but it's usually just a generic recommendation via the front office, often for a group practice. Perhaps a small thing but an annoyance, nonetheless

I am always impressed and satisfied with the medical
treatment I recieve whether it's with Dr. Robert Bloomberg personally, a nurse practitioner or, any of the wonderful office professionals. Sometimes my wait is much longer than desired when scheduled with Dr. Bloomberg; however, it is understandable based on the personal and thorough attention I receive during my appointment sessions. Whenever I leave the office I know that my health issues have been addressed with the most medically appropriate treatment and concern for my well-being.

my family and I have been seeing Dr.'s at this office for over 5 years. The staff is pleasant, professional and kind. The office building is clean and comfortable. We usually can get in quickly when we see Dr. Sue and I think is an NP and we find her bedside manner to be warm, helpful and the perfect combination of soft and firm. We never feel rushed and we know she has our best interest at heart. She always considers the aspects of our personal situation before suggesting next steps. She is open and honest about our care and we love that! I highly recommend trying this office for yourself.

Watch your bill closely! Dr. Bloomberg's office has claimed "Counseling Obesity" on multiple bills over the past 2-3 years. Weight was never discussed during my routine sinus infection and a my son's Covid appointment. The patient owes $0, but the insurance pays $26.

I've notified my health insurance to investigate and deny the claim. I'm wondering if this is a common practice for this Dr. Or is it just something I noticed happening to me??? multiple times? over multiple years?

Sorry, but I'll be the grouchy old man. My experience today (for my annual physical examination) was completely unsatisfactory, from the lack of greeting and friendliness at the front desk, to the hour delay in seeing the PA, to incorrect paperwork by the technician, to relatively perfunctory apologies from the office manager, and to an overall unpleasant experience. On the only positive side, Tina, the PA, was thorough, helpful, professional, and pleasant.
A patient deserves better. The reception area is pretty depressing and dark. Maybe that's why the receptionists in that area don't give you a feeling that they're glad you're a patient. "Name. Birthday. Have a seat." That was about it. No one approached me to tell me of delays or to apologize for the delays. When I asked how much longer I was expected to wait, I received blank stares. The technician was perfunctory. When I noted (sarcastically, I admit) that she'd entered Miller instead of Mills on some paperwork, she said, "You don't have to get snippy with me," and walked out. The Office Manager came in. "What seems to be the problem?" She listened, but I have the feeling that she saw an addled, bald, old curmudgeon, and chalked up my comments as coming from an addled, bald, old curmudgeon. In other words, placate him and then ignore him.
I'll not return to this practice. As a patient, I expect, and deserve, better. Even if I am old, bald, and grouchy.

I have been seeing Dr Bloomberg for over 20yrs. two weeks before my annual physical, i got a call from his office telling me they wont see me any more because my insurance is giving them problems with billing while they were still under contract with my insurance. I was told to wait a month until the contract expired and they would see me as an out of network patient. They new they had a problem for over 6 months but waited until 2 weeks before to fire me. Guess i am looking for a new doctor.

Frequently Asked Questions

Doctors who operate in the MDVIP models typically see far fewer patients than traditional primary care doctors. That gives them more time to develop deeper doctor-patient relationships that can lead to better outcomes. They can also offer conveniences that most primary care doctors can’t, including same- and next-day appointments. They’re available after hours for urgent matters. And they have time to focus on prevention. That focus begins with the MDVIP Wellness Program, which patients pay for with their annual membership fee.

Most MDVIP-affiliated primary care practices accept insurance (your physician can tell you whether they accept your specific insurance plan). Your annual fee pays for preventive care medical services that insurance usually doesn’t cover (e.g., advanced diagnostic testing and screenings). Your MDVIP-affiliated physician will continue to bill your insurance and charge copays, co-insurances and deductibles as he or she currently does for other medical services like sick visits.

MDVIP makes wellness and prevention easier by providing your physician with innovative tools and technology. MDVIP supports your physician’s practice and seeks to eliminate barriers to a positive healthcare experience. Your doctor will determine whether and how to incorporate these tools at his/her discretion.
