About Alison Schlisman, MD

My approach to primary care is to provide education to help my patients make informed choices about their health. Our medical journey together will be one of shared decision making. My role is to help you set and achieve goals that allow you to function and feel at your best. And if you experience illness or disease, I will be there to help navigate a treatment plan.  As your primary care physician, I believe my job is to help care for you, as well as to coordinate, facilitate and sometimes translate medical care on your behalf.

I have practiced primary care medicine in Salt Lake City for the last 20 years. I am board certified in both internal medicine and geriatrics. I currently maintain an adjunct faculty position with the University of Utah School of Medicine. My primary focus has been on care for older patients, and I have been voted Best Geriatrics Doctor in City Weekly magazine for the last three years. I am now opening my practice to adults of all ages and hope to share my knowledge of the aging process with a younger generation of patients to help anticipate and avoid pitfalls that occur in later years. And of course, I will continue to provide comprehensive, goal-oriented care to those of my patients who have already entered their senior years.

Having unrushed time with patients is essential to caring for you in the personalized, proactive manner you deserve. As an MDVIP-affiliated doctor, I will have time, resources and MDVIP’s support to help improve your health through all stages of your life.

What our members are saying

I fell and had a severely broken hip. It was not fun. I was in the hospital, and they are a little robotic, and you are just on a factory assembly line of folks needing something, So there is no comfort there.
My friend called Dr. Schilsman, and they said they would set up an appointment. I was sad because I thought she would visit. But as I was dosing, I looked up, and there she was,…

Dr Alison Schlisman has made a huge difference in my medical and health life. She is always patient, thorough, and listens to my concerns and questions. She helped me set goals and make a plan to reach them. I truly appreciate all she has done to make me feel like a true VIP patient.

Dr. Schlisman, I never thought I would like a doctor as much as I liked Doctor Ahn, but you have definitely surpassed even her level of care. We really love you. You're very thorough and sensitive. An incident that really made a difference to me was when I had a horrible thumb infection, you came in to see me when you were taking time off because your mother had died, and you had recently had a…

Dr Alison Schlisman is one of the best doctors I have ever had. She takes the time to listen to my concerns and never treats me like I’m a bother. She always has helpful suggestions and always follows up with me on any test results or concerns. I’m always able to get an appointment in a timely manner. I’m so glad she’s my doctor.

I am completely satisfied with MDVIP and my wonderful Dr, Dr Alison Schlisman, and her staff.
In fact today a gentleman who was checking MDVIP out because he was looking for a new Doctor, asked me what I thought and I told him he would be making the correct decision to join her practice.

I have never had such a complete health care analysis and An ongoing health plan from any other healthcare provider I have ever been associated with. If Dr Schlishman were to discontinue her practice, I would be extremely disappointed and hope that MDVIP could provide an equally competent replacement. Otherwise, I would disaffiliate myself with the program.

Dr Alison is knowledgeable and a natural teacher as she explains test results and recommendations. She listens to my concerns and since joining MDVIP from a university hospital has had the time to address my concerns. I had a life threatening emergency out of state on a weekend evening and called Dr Alison, on her personal phone line. She immediately picked up and helped me make a critical decision which allowed me to make appropriate choices avoiding possibly serious complications. In that moment I was grateful to have access to my doctor because of MDVIP.

I enjoy my visits with Dr. Schlisman. She is always patient with me even when I don't follow her advice, like exercising more and improving my diet to include more high fiber foods.

Dr. Schlisman is a very personable person. I felt comfortable with her in the very beginning at the meet and greet Dr Ahn set up when se found her to take over her Salt Lake patients. That was when I decided to join her practice. And have beedisappointed.

This Doctor recently took over Dr Anh's practice when she retired. I have met with her three times and feel very confident that she will meet my needs. She was very thorough in exploring my medical history.

Dr. Schlissman was my mother-in-law’s geriatric doctor for many years. Now my wife and I are patients too. Her manner is so open that it feels like you are talking to an old friend.

Frequently Asked Questions

Doctors who operate in the MDVIP models typically see far fewer patients than traditional primary care doctors. That gives them more time to develop deeper doctor-patient relationships that can lead to better outcomes. They can also offer conveniences that most primary care doctors can’t, including same- and next-day appointments. They’re available after hours for urgent matters. And they have time to focus on prevention. That focus begins with the MDVIP Wellness Program, which patients pay for with their annual membership fee.

Most MDVIP-affiliated primary care practices accept insurance (your physician can tell you whether they accept your specific insurance plan). Your annual fee pays for preventive care medical services that insurance usually doesn’t cover (e.g., advanced diagnostic testing and screenings). Your MDVIP-affiliated physician will continue to bill your insurance and charge copays, co-insurances and deductibles as he or she currently does for other medical services like sick visits.

MDVIP makes wellness and prevention easier by providing your physician with innovative tools and technology. MDVIP supports your physician’s practice and seeks to eliminate barriers to a positive healthcare experience. Your doctor will determine whether and how to incorporate these tools at his/her discretion.
