Amy T. Byrd, MD, FACP

Dr Byrd and her PSC Natalie are truly the most amazing team. Dr Byrd provides exceptional care on every visit, and Natalie always follows up with every detail. They are responsive and supportive for urgent matters as well as routine ones. We are so very glad to be in their practice, they are the best team!

Amy Byrd had been my doctor for a number of years prior to joining MDVIP. Amy is an astute practitioner who aspires to excellence which is the absolute quality I look for in a physician. As a former ICU/CCU nurse, I spent the majority of my career in the health care field representing doctors and health care providers in MA and ME evaluating best care practices. I believe that Amy is committed to best care practice, particularly after the telemedicine model during the COVID 19 pandemic. During Covid, I had a ruptured appendix which required a couple of hospitalizations and four months of IV antibiotic management. Post recovery, Amy and I had a frank discussion about telemedicine and I explained that if that was her model, I would have to leave her practice because telemedicine did not work for me. She assured me that I would not have to endure telemedicine .
When Amy told me her plan for MDVIP, I was elated that she would be able to practice the type of medicine she enjoyed - personal, comprehensive ,and research driven. Amy respects my belief that we are partners in my health care journey. I appreciate her willingness to listen to me, but above all hear my questions and concerns. For example, Amy suggested statin therapy for my high cholesterol. Seeing that I am not a fan of statins, I suggested a compromise: I would take a fast CT scan of the heart and if the numbers were greater than zero, I would re-consider her suggestion. After five years my fast CT scan results twice were zero. I did assent to seeing a cardiologist at her recommendation and Amy, the cardiologist are both on board with me NOT taking the statins. Amy shares her up to date medical research willingly and she has the humility to consider alternatives to her suggestions.

Amy deserves my highest praise and I willingly give her a super star rating!

It is a real stretch for me to pay the very high premiums for MDVIP, but I am grateful that ,if needed ,I can call Amy or Natalie, and my call will be returned

My husband and I both have Dr. Byrd as our primary care physician. My husband has many medical medical conditions and Dr. Byrd listens empathically to his updates and then addresses them one by one. She has also been a wonderful referral source for us. In addition, neither my husband or I have ever had such thorough annual physicals, that truly covered us from head to toe. I could relay many examples of Dr. Byrd’s sensitivity , knowledge and down to earth style, but there is one that I will choose for example. - It was a Sat. night and I had pain and swelling in my leg. Having had 2 prior DVT’s, I was very anxious and becoming more so as time went on. I called Dr. Byrd, apologizing for the after hours call. She immediately made me feel better saying it was okay, and that she was glad that I called. Since I had begun a low dose of blood thinner she did not think it was a DVT and instructed me to go to the ER if it got worse. I can not really describe how helpful it was to hear her expertise, to avoid the ER at a time of high levels of contagious disease, and to have her calm my anxiety. We feel we would be remiss if we did not also mention Natalie, Dr. Byrd’s personal assistant. She too is amazing! She’s kind and responsible. They are a dynamic duo! 

Dr. Byrd, who by the way, likes to be called Amy, is a rock, who is available whenever you need her. I recently was diagnosed by test with Covid in January and I emailed her right away, and she responded right away with a prescription for Paxlovid. Vigilant, available, caring and kindness describes who she is. She exudes peace of mind and a calmness when you're feeling your worst. I feel very fortunate that she has my care in her quiver.
