About Bassem K. Khalil, MD
I was born and raised in Alexandria, Egypt, a city steeped in history and cultural richness. Growing up in a family devoted to healthcare—my father, a surgeon; my mother, a pharmacist—I developed an early appreciation for the commitment, compassion and sacrifices inherent to the medical profession. My education at a prestigious, merit-based, French private school instilled discipline and resilience, while studying music at the Alexandria Conservatory nurtured my creativity and focus.
Staying active has always been a cornerstone of my life. While I’ve enjoyed a variety of sports, including soccer, basketball and running, tennis has remained my true passion. As a resident of Bethesda, MD, I prioritize playing regularly on the area’s many courts, using the game not only to stay physically fit but also to connect with the local community. Beyond athletics, my enthusiasm for fast-paced pursuits extends to following Formula One racing, which continues to inspire my appreciation for precision, strategy and excellence.
With over 15 years of clinical experience, I have dedicated my career to preventive medicine, helping to address health concerns and supporting patients to feel empowered to take control of their well-being. My holistic approach prioritizes personalized care, and I aim to help ensure that every patient feels supported, heard and more equipped to pursue achieving long-term wellness. My goal is to provide individualized attention that I hope can transform the patient experience into one that helps enable individuals to thrive in today’s increasingly complex healthcare landscape.
My journey, shaped by cultural diversity, a passion for excellence and a commitment to health, continues to drive my dedication to delivering meaningful and transformative care to those I serve.

Frequently Asked Questions
Doctors who operate in the MDVIP models typically see far fewer patients than traditional primary care doctors. That gives them more time to develop deeper doctor-patient relationships that can lead to better outcomes. They can also offer conveniences that most primary care doctors can’t, including same- and next-day appointments. They’re available after hours for urgent matters. And they have time to focus on prevention. That focus begins with the MDVIP Wellness Program, which patients pay for with their annual membership fee.
Most MDVIP-affiliated primary care practices accept insurance (your physician can tell you whether they accept your specific insurance plan). Your annual fee pays for preventive care medical services that insurance usually doesn’t cover (e.g., advanced diagnostic testing and screenings). Your MDVIP-affiliated physician will continue to bill your insurance and charge copays, co-insurances and deductibles as he or she currently does for other medical services like sick visits.
MDVIP makes wellness and prevention easier by providing your physician with innovative tools and technology. MDVIP supports your physician’s practice and seeks to eliminate barriers to a positive healthcare experience. Your doctor will determine whether and how to incorporate these tools at his/her discretion.
