Chris Gelvin, MD

I am so grateful to be a patient of Dr. Gelvin in Sarasota, Florida as he is truly a medical caregiver whose goal is to help his patients. Whenever I have met with him he has been patient and willing to spend as much time as needed to address my concerns. His is NOT arrogant, condescending, or dismissive, rather you know at that moment in time, his only focus is to help you resolve your health issues. Of course, all offices manage on a top down system so I believe the greatest testimony to Dr. Gelvin is his office staff who have been with him for more than a decade. Karen, the office manager, is willing to help all patients navigate their insurance and billing problems. Indeed, I know this first hand as she worked overtime to resolve a billing problem I had with another diagnostic facility - this was definitely not her responsibility but she did so because the entire office is just that focused on helping their patients. Then there is Dr. Gelvin's medical assistant, Crissy, who has the patience of a saint and in addition to returning phone calls, making sure all referrals are up to date, taking requests for prescription refills, ensures that patients are seen on time. Seriously, I have never waited to be escorted into an exam room, Crissy is waiting for you before you sit down in the waiting room! This entire office is driven by one goal, patient satisfaction and well being. Other medical offices should use Dr. Gelvin and his team as a model - everyone would benefit.

When i relocated to Sarasota from Northern New Jersey in 2019, I needed to find a physician for some prescription renewals. Via on line research, neighbors in my new community and the local community blog in the over 55 community where I live, I elected to contact Dr. Gelvin's office. He was accepting new patients. Initially, I had regular visit with general examination. Dr. Gelvin renewed my prescriptions. I then scheduled my annual physical for later that year. This was prior to Dr. Gelvin affiliating with MDVIP. I was impressed with his thoroughness and time spent with me compared with my last internist who was part of a Weill Cornell Physician Group in New York. When Dr. Gelvin announced that he was affiliating with MDVIP so that he could have a more manageable number of patients that he could spend enough time with to provide a higher quality level of care, I discussed the program with my wife. We agreed that based on my strong positive feeling about Dr. Gelvin and the difficulty of finding physicians taking new patients in the Sarasota area, I should sign up for MDVIP and see how it worked out. Going forward, I was very impressed with Dr. Gelvin's approach to having all testing completed before the annual physical meeting. And the time that Dr. Gelvin spends with me completing the physical in amazing. With my last internist in New York at Weill Cornell, I was lucky to have a 15 minute visit, and test results were given over the phone. Dr. Gelvin spends an hour or more completing the annual physical. Dr. Gelvin sends bloodwork for the annual physical to the Cleveland Clinic for a thorough analysis. This resulted in identifying an excess of a small calcium that was a potential problems for blocking an artery. Resultant follow-up with a cardiologist has enabled me to manage the problem with statin.

We have had Dr Gelvin as our physician for over 20 years, well before he was associated with MDVIP. When he made the transition to MDVIP there was no doubt in our minds that we wanted to continue with him. He has always been caring and in tune to our needs. He is an excellent listener and has a great sense of humor. Now as we start to age we are grateful we have him as our doctor. Couldn’t ask for a better physician. 

There is no one instance that makes me appreciate Dr Chris Gelvin. I would have to site that from my first appointment he made me feel relaxed and listened. Several times I have been very upset and scared but after talking with him and following his instructions I felt at ease. It's hard to explain , he always listens , never rushes and is able help whether it’s treating me himself or reform to a doctor that can help.. to me that is priceless. In addition he had trained his staff to be pleasant and helpful. No grumps here.
