About Danish Jabbar, MD

After nearly three decades in medicine, I have come to believe that the greatest privilege of being a physician is not simply treating disease; it is being entrusted with someone’s health over the course of their life. That relationship, along with the opportunity to make a meaningful difference in another person’s life, is what drew me to medicine and remains the most rewarding part of being a doctor.

I spent most of my professional life caring for patients and families in St. Louis and throughout Missouri. Over the years, my approach to medicine has changed significantly. Earlier in my career, I often focused on the problem in front of me: What is the diagnosis? What treatment does this patient need today? Today, I think much further ahead.

I have learned to look at my patients in terms of decades. I ask myself: What are the next three or four decades of this person’s health going to look like? What can we do today to help them remain active, independent, mentally sharp, and engaged with the people and experiences they love years from now?

I believe it is increasingly important not simply to treat illness, but to preserve health and, whenever possible, prevent the events that lead to hospitalization and loss of independence. Modern medicine is remarkably good at treating disease once it occurs. I believe our greater opportunity is to identify risks earlier and change the trajectory before serious illness develops.

Some of my greatest joys as a physician have come from watching that happen. Seeing someone regain control of their diabetes, blood pressure, or weight; become stronger and more active; or tell me, “I feel like myself again,” is deeply rewarding. Those moments remind me that sometimes the biggest difference we make isn’t curing an illness but changing where someone’s health is headed.

Personalized care means recognizing that no two patients are exactly alike. Guidelines, lab results, imaging and medications are necessary, but they are only part of the picture. I like to think outside the box and approach each patient individually. I want to understand their family history, lifestyle, nutrition, sleep, stress, goals, and the circumstances that make them who they are.

I increasingly see my role not simply as the physician who treats illness, but as a guide for my patients’ health and longevity. My job is to help them understand where they are today, anticipate where their health may be heading, and work together to influence that direction.

That requires time to listen, think, explain, and build a relationship.

My vision for my MDVIP-affiliated practice is to put that relationship at the center of medicine. I want my patients to know that we are not simply managing today’s medical problems. We have been creating a plan for their health for decades ahead!

Frequently Asked Questions

Doctors who operate in the MDVIP models typically see far fewer patients than traditional primary care doctors. That gives them more time to develop deeper doctor-patient relationships that can lead to better outcomes. They can also offer conveniences that most primary care doctors can’t, including same- and next-day appointments. They’re available after hours for urgent matters. And they have time to focus on prevention. That focus begins with the MDVIP Wellness Program, which patients pay for with their annual membership fee.

Most MDVIP-affiliated primary care practices accept insurance (your physician can tell you whether they accept your specific insurance plan). Your annual fee pays for preventive care medical services that insurance usually doesn’t cover (e.g., advanced diagnostic testing and screenings). Your MDVIP-affiliated physician will continue to bill your insurance and charge copays, co-insurances and deductibles as he or she currently does for other medical services like sick visits.

MDVIP makes wellness and prevention easier by providing your physician with innovative tools and technology. MDVIP supports your physician’s practice and seeks to eliminate barriers to a positive healthcare experience. Your doctor will determine whether and how to incorporate these tools at his/her discretion.
