About Elizabeth W. McLain, MD
There are many approaches to wellness. My medical practice is unique in that in addition to family medicine, I am also board certified in integrative medicine which can be viewed as being the entire foundation of wellness. Specifically, I practice functional and nutritional aspects of that specialty, working closely with my patients to identify and treat the root cause of a problem. This way of practicing medicine looks at the whole person – mental, physical and spiritual – addressing each aspect as it applies uniquely to that individual. It is labor-intensive, time-consuming and challenging as I help patients adopt and incorporate lifestyle changes on the path to wellness. However, it is rewarding as I see them become healthier and happier. I always say, MD means Medical Detective, but it also means coach, cheerleader, friend and sometimes psychiatrist!
My MDVIP-affiliated practice avails me of the necessary time it takes to practice medicine this way. To me, an office visit is about far more than just presenting the medical problem; it’s about the whole person. MDVIP is the perfect fit for the way I do things. I will have the time to listen and hear what my patients need to say, have the time to teach what needs to be taught and, finally, I will have the time for all the detective work involved. Similar to concierge medicine practices, I also offer conveniences like same- or next-day appointments that start on time. I helped manage and treat (and sometimes resolve) most chronic medical conditions and work closely with specialists I know and trust in my community when needed. As a physician, my patients are already VIPs. Now I have an MDVIP-affiliated practice to serve them even better.

Frequently Asked Questions
Doctors who operate in the MDVIP models typically see far fewer patients than traditional primary care doctors. That gives them more time to develop deeper doctor-patient relationships that can lead to better outcomes. They can also offer conveniences that most primary care doctors can’t, including same- and next-day appointments. They’re available after hours for urgent matters. And they have time to focus on prevention. That focus begins with the MDVIP Wellness Program, which patients pay for with their annual membership fee.
Most MDVIP-affiliated primary care practices accept insurance (your physician can tell you whether they accept your specific insurance plan). Your annual fee pays for preventive care medical services that insurance usually doesn’t cover (e.g., advanced diagnostic testing and screenings). Your MDVIP-affiliated physician will continue to bill your insurance and charge copays, co-insurances and deductibles as he or she currently does for other medical services like sick visits.
MDVIP makes wellness and prevention easier by providing your physician with innovative tools and technology. MDVIP supports your physician’s practice and seeks to eliminate barriers to a positive healthcare experience. Your doctor will determine whether and how to incorporate these tools at his/her discretion.
