About Eric Dunlop, DO

I believe good medicine stems from a close doctor-patient relationship that revolves around longer appointments, strong communication, proactive patient involvement, and educated discussions about medical decisions. As your private doctor, I encourage you to share in the decision making process when it comes to your health and I strive to find an individual wellness plan for you, as no two patients are alike. All too often in modern medicine I feel that doctors are forced to practice “cookie cutter medicine”. As an MDVIP-affiliated physician, I am able to spend the necessary time needed to practice like an old-fashioned primary care doctor and develop a personal relationship with you.

As a family practice physician I am comfortable managing most conditions, but my special interests are in cardiovascular health, hypertension, dermatology, and hospital based medicine. I am one of a small number of primary care doctors in San Luis Obispo who has admitting privileges at both Sierra Vista Hospital and French Hospital. I regularly see and manage my patients when they are hospitalized, and because of this, I find they have a smooth transition to follow up care after being discharged from the hospital. I have numerous interactions and relationships with local specialists in San Luis Obispo to help you with your unique needs. I see patients from all over the central coast, including San Luis Obispo, Pismo Beach and the 5 Cities area, Nipomo, Santa Maria, Atascadero, Paso Robles, Morro Bay, Los Osos and Cayucos.

What our members are saying

I don't have a specific moment to write about; all of my moments with Dr. D have been wonderful. I first went to him because I didn't have a doctor and he was my daughter's doc. I loved him right away! Caring, attentive and nice doctors are hard to find in our underserved area so I feel wildly lucky to have found this sweet guy:) I have fibromyalgia and other hard to manage diseases and Dr.…

Dr D has always exhibited both kindness and openness to myself, my husband and my mother. These qualities are much appreciated. He welcomes dialog and answers questions in terms that are not only understandable but appropriate to the specific situation. It is a pleasure to deal with him and the warm staff members that work in the office with him. We are in good hands.

I don't have anything exciting to tell you. But I do want to say that I'm awfully glad that Dr. Dunlop is my doctor. I believe he's competent and knowledgeable, and best of all, he's very nice. I feel completely comfortable talking with him, which is so important.

Frequently Asked Questions

Doctors who operate in the MDVIP models typically see far fewer patients than traditional primary care doctors. That gives them more time to develop deeper doctor-patient relationships that can lead to better outcomes. They can also offer conveniences that most primary care doctors can’t, including same- and next-day appointments. They’re available after hours for urgent matters. And they have time to focus on prevention. That focus begins with the MDVIP Wellness Program, which patients pay for with their annual membership fee.

Most MDVIP-affiliated primary care practices accept insurance (your physician can tell you whether they accept your specific insurance plan). Your annual fee pays for preventive care medical services that insurance usually doesn’t cover (e.g., advanced diagnostic testing and screenings). Your MDVIP-affiliated physician will continue to bill your insurance and charge copays, co-insurances and deductibles as he or she currently does for other medical services like sick visits.

MDVIP makes wellness and prevention easier by providing your physician with innovative tools and technology. MDVIP supports your physician’s practice and seeks to eliminate barriers to a positive healthcare experience. Your doctor will determine whether and how to incorporate these tools at his/her discretion.
