About George Chaconas, MD, FNLA
My goal as your personal physician is to provide you with the most up-to-date information and treatment to enhance your life and preserve your health. While treating disease is a necessity, I think we would all like to prevent disease and that is what I pride myself in doing. In partnering with MDVIP, I am now able to create individualized wellness plans that will help you achieve your health goals in an unhurried environment. My MDVIP-affiliated practice also offers services, including comprehensive, advanced health screenings and diagnostic tests, that go far beyond those found in concierge medicine practices.
As a board certified family medicine physician, with over 25 years of experience, I have spent my entire career concentrating on all aspects of health. As an extension of my commitment to preventive health, I also became one of only 21 doctors in Virginia to be board certified in Clinical Lipidology. My regional referral center, the Center for Advanced Lipid Management in Roanoke, helps many patients in southwest Virginia and I bring the same heart attack prevention expertise to my primary care practice at Smith Mountain Lake. I treat my patients as I would want to be treated, always going the extra mile to explain things in an easy to understand, friendly and non-confrontational manner. I love what I do.
On a personal note, I have other passions, which are spending time with my wife, kids and dog. My hobbies include golf and playing guitar.

I have been a patient of yours for a very long time. I don't believe I could ever find another doctor as good as George. I think he is the best he has always been able to help, either by treatment in office or gotten me to a specialist. He has also given me good advice at times when I really needed it. I feel as he is not just my doctor, but a friend. I have had…
Frequently Asked Questions
Doctors who operate in the MDVIP models typically see far fewer patients than traditional primary care doctors. That gives them more time to develop deeper doctor-patient relationships that can lead to better outcomes. They can also offer conveniences that most primary care doctors can’t, including same- and next-day appointments. They’re available after hours for urgent matters. And they have time to focus on prevention. That focus begins with the MDVIP Wellness Program, which patients pay for with their annual membership fee.
Most MDVIP-affiliated primary care practices accept insurance (your physician can tell you whether they accept your specific insurance plan). Your annual fee pays for preventive care medical services that insurance usually doesn’t cover (e.g., advanced diagnostic testing and screenings). Your MDVIP-affiliated physician will continue to bill your insurance and charge copays, co-insurances and deductibles as he or she currently does for other medical services like sick visits.
MDVIP makes wellness and prevention easier by providing your physician with innovative tools and technology. MDVIP supports your physician’s practice and seeks to eliminate barriers to a positive healthcare experience. Your doctor will determine whether and how to incorporate these tools at his/her discretion.
