Meet Jason Nelson, MD

I love caring for people. When college ended, I had to discern whether I'd pursue ministry or medicine. Thankfully, medicine feels like both and "then some." What a great honor it has been to serve this community through the practice of medicine for more than 25 years. I practice in the MDVIP model to offer a more integrated approach to caring for people, including myself, through the practice of medicine and wellness. 

Because I want to discuss with patients the root of issues and not solely their representative symptoms, my MDVIP-affiliated practice focuses heavily on quality of life and supports my patients as they pursue prevention and wellness. My patients and I work together to create personalized health care plans to help address concerns, how to approach preventing others, and how to work toward optimizing the gift of health. Whether you want to run a Turkey Trot, hike the Pacific Coast Trail, or play on the floor with grandchildren, I want to work alongside you to support you in achieving your short- and long-term goals.

I have special interests, including cardiovascular health, fitness and longevity, metabolic syndrome and diabetes, nutrition, obesity and weight loss, male and female hormones, sleep quality, pediatrics and general medicine. My MDVIP-affiliated practice offers services, including comprehensive, advanced health screenings and diagnostic tests, that go far beyond those found in concierge medicine practices. 

I am affiliated with CHRISTUS Santa Rosa Hospital and Resolute Baptist Hospital, and I have a network of specialists to whom I can refer. My practice is located in New Braunfels, TX, and I have the privilege of serving patients from all over Comal County and neighboring counties. Similar to concierge medicine practices, I also offer conveniences like same- or next-day appointments with minimal waiting and that can last as long as needed.

Most MDVIP-affiliated primary care practices accept insurance (your physician can tell you whether they accept your specific insurance plan). Your annual fee pays for preventive care medical services that insurance usually doesn’t cover (e.g., advanced diagnostic testing and screenings). Your MDVIP-affiliated physician will continue to bill your insurance and charge copays, co-insurances and deductibles as he or she currently does for other medical services like sick visits.

MDVIP makes wellness and prevention easier by providing your physician with innovative tools and technology. MDVIP supports your physician’s practice and seeks to eliminate barriers to a positive healthcare experience.
