My Philosophy and Approach to Wellness...

I have been an internal medicine physician on the east end of Suffolk County, Long Island, for more than 15 years. My wonderful staff and I strive to provide more personalized and friendly care, with a touch of humor and even background music. My philosophy is founded on empathy, compassion and communication, along with implementing wellness resources provided with MDVIP.

As a primary care physician, I find that the more personalized doctor-patient relationship offered in my practice combined with results of the services included in the annual MDVIP Wellness Program can help in focusing on improving your health span (a concept referring to the number of healthier, disease-free years of life you could experience). My MDVIP-affiliated practice offers services, including comprehensive, advanced health screenings and diagnostic tests, that go far beyond those found in concierge medicine practices. And we offer conveniences, like same-day and next-day visit with minimal waiting, the ability to reach me after hours for more urgent needs and 30-minute routine or sick visits, as needed. Another benefit is care for members’ dependents ages 18-26 (minus the annual Wellness Program).

In my practice, I can also provide you with more individualized care and time together with a greater focus on prevention, as well as more in-depth discussions about your acute and chronic health concerns. As your personal doctor, I can practice medicine the way I have always aspired and work with you to develop an action plan to help you enjoy a healthier, more active lifestyle.

My practice is in Calverton, New York, and serves patients from many areas, such as Riverhead, Miller Place, Rocky Point, Sound Beach and neighboring towns throughout Long Island. Some of our areas of focus are diabetes, hypertension, elevated cholesterol, cardiovascular disease and vascular disease, in addition to prevention and primary care.

I am excited to have more time and focused energy aimed at helping you pursue improvement to your health and your life.

I had seen Dr. O'Connor to check on a old neck injury. He sent me for a sonogram which showed some suspicious spots in my neck area. Dr. O'Connor explained to me that the spots may have something to do with my thyroid, including thyroid cancer. He explained the steps that were probably going to happen, CAT scan and biopsy and that the results of these exams will most likely be… See more

I met Dr OConner when my mother needed a doctor. Years later when I needed a doctor I knew where I wanted to go.
I love that he listens to what I have to say and gives me all the time I need at my appointment. He is also there if you need him after hours. I am thankful to have him in my life. Doctors like him are special and hard to find.

When we were moving from Port Washington to Riverhead our long time friend and doctor said he would find us a doctor in the area. He found John OConnor.
From day one my husband and I felt a wonderful connection to this caring young man. He has been with us when Tom had a heart attack and with me for every medical trial I experienced. My story is this. For over fifteen years I suffered… See more
