About Julie A. Staats, DO, FAAFP
As a physician with over 40 years of experience in medicine, my goal as your MDVIP-affiliated primary care doctor is to form a dynamic doctor-patient partnership that helps as you pursue keeping yourself stronger, more independent and out of the hospital. I embrace proactive primary prevention measures and holistic (whole person), patient-centered medical care.
In addition to primary care services, our office may sometimes recommend alternative medicine choices, herbal supplements or education sites to help you discover tools for healthier living that we hope will resonate with your lifestyle and values. Each day, I believe my patients can take a step closer as they work toward a cleaner, more active and healthier life, relying on fewer medications when possible.
Our office is a teaching clinic, serving medical students from Auburn University and Alabama College of Osteopathic Medicine. It can be eye-opening for these students to see firsthand the improved outcomes of a more personal and proactive approach to patient care.
My MDVIP-affiliated practice offers services, including comprehensive, advanced health screenings and diagnostic tests, that go far beyond those found in concierge medicine practices. Please note that I do not prescribe any controlled substance prescription medication for new patients seeking to join my practice. Those patients will be required to follow up with or see a specialist who prescribes such medication, such as those for sleep, ADHD, pain or anxiety.

Dr. Staats has been a primary care provider for me since 2020. After leaving her practice at the end of 2022 because of moving out of Niceville at the time, I could not find another practice like hers and rejoined in 2025.
Dr.Staats listens and is highly intelligent and creative when thinking about solutions for your care. She helped me with my diagnoses with RA, AS and other autoimmune arthritis but referring me to other 5 star area professionals.

Was a patient for 2+ years. In Nov 2024, received notification that my PA would be leaving and if I did not want to be a continued patient, request a CD. Come to find out that my patient portal access was deactivated so I no longer had access to my records and I was no longer considered a patient. I contacted Dr. Staat's office to inquire why and was told if I wasn't an MDV client, I was no longer a patient. To be an MDV client, you have to pay $500- $1500 depending on your MVP status. This is above and beyond any Tricare and/or co-pay and medicine charges.
I think this is a terrible indication of the professionalism and quality practice. Would not recommend them for military members.
Confirmed with Tricare that this office should not be charging Tricare patients above / beyond the Tricare authorization. Please be cautious when using this office as a PCM.

As long as you’re paying the big money for MD VIP, they care. But when it comes to them submitting the proper paperwork to insurance companies to get your medication approved, they will only go so far. Their office staff is extremely rude. As an MD VIP member they give you a phone number in which you can call or text after hours. I was scolded it for doing just that because they didn’t want to deal with Trying to get my prescription approved. It really falls short of the mark, especially when you decide to not renew after pricing increases. They cut you off and won’t even do their job although they did not submit the proper paperwork when you were a patient.
And your response to a review is extremely disappointing and unprofessional. To think that you would try to not accept responsibility. The insurance company clearly said that your office failed to properly fill out the appeals form. The insurance companies decision was based on the fact that you did not provide The evidence that was needed to get the medication approved. None of that has anything to do with the lack of professionalism and the rude treatment of patience. In my previous review, I failed to mention that although children are included in the MD VIP plan when we informed the doctor that we wanted her to see our daughter when she was sick, we were told ““ do not bring her here if she’s sick we don’t want to get the office sick”. What kind of doctors office is this? Where are we to bring our kid if they are sick? The emergency room? To pass the buck like that is the reason insurance rates are so high, a Doctor Who refuses to see a sick child. I’ve reduced the rating to a one star and I would go zero if I could.

I have visited Dr. Staats for aesthetic services such as laser hair removal and facial IPL laser treatments. The pricing is very reasonable, and she offers treatment packages or the option to purchase individual treatments. Her office is conveniently located and she is flexible with scheduling appointments. I highly recommend her services.

Don't waste your time. The staff, with the exception of the receptionists, are completely rude. I made an appoinment thru their patient portal and the scheduler didn't update their system with my appoinment. The wouldnt honor the appoinment even though they admitted it was their mistake and that this had happened quiet frequently. And even though I had been waiting for 8 days to get in to see my PCM. Imagine if this had been your kid and this happened. Won't be going back.

I called there for my wife to have her self check but I was told that I have to pay over $2000 to be in their program and that’s not acceptable or feasible. If they’re that good of a doctors they don’t need to take peoples money because we already have wonderful insurance so please make me understand why they need over $2000 to be in a program that I’ve never heard of.

Two years ago, I became tired of being rushed through doctors office visits will no real evaluation of my health and sometimes no real exam or proper testing. I transferred to Dr. Staats and changed my entire overall health and wellness. I have thorough evaluations by someone who personalizes my care. I have proper annual testing with real follow up! I have improved my weight, exercise, diet and overall general health with measurable tests and lab data! I am not told to go to immediate care and see someone I don’t know every time I have a problem. I finally have a physician who really cares about me and my health- a real partner in my care! This is what medicine is supposed to be! Dr. Staats has even managed to make a compliant and willing partner of my husband who was always resistant to proactive healthcare which is nothing short of a miracle! Thank you for all you do! It has actually improved our lives.

Everyone here was so nice and welcoming, It was nice being listened to about my concerns and the nurses and doctor actually knew what I was talking about with my diagnosis. Offices were clean and overall loved this experience. I will definitely continue to keep coming back to this office!

I called this office asking if they were accepting new patients and I was told yes. I was instructed to fill out paperwork from their website and email it back to them. The paperwork asked for a lot of personal information and medical history including family medical history. Email is not a secure way of sending this information as there are literally no privacy protections. To be told to email this personal information was my first red flag. This doctor came recommended for alternative medicine which is what I am looking for so I decided to forge ahead anyway.
I drove to the office and dropped off my paperwork instead of sending it and I was told someone would contact me. A little over a week later I received a letter in the mail (again with all my personal information and history included with the letter). It stated they would not take me as a patient. The reason I was given was the practice was at their quota for control substance patients. I am not seeking control substances! In fact the opposite! I am seeking a doctor looking to help me find alternatives to standard medicine and that takes a more holistic approach. If someone had taken the time to have a conversation with me they would have found that out.
I am appalled by your process and therefore think people new to this area should know you look at paperwork over having a conversation with someone. Medical treatment should be personalized for each individual, not a clinical statistic based on paperwork.
I have a true fear I was just discriminated against! There was no basis or understanding for who I am or what sort of direction I would like my own medical treatment to go. I am sure I dodged a bullet not being accepted by your office. I hope my review will help others to do the same!

Very knowledgeable doctor, however calls are rarely if ever returned, referrals have continuously been sent to wrong offices and they don’t like setting up appointments with your concerns unless it’s your first patient appointment. Disappointed.

We are new to the area and really researched to find a physician we felt would be a good fit for my husband and I. We both had a great experience with Dr. Staats and liked her as a physician. Unfortunately we will not be returning to her practice. I had some tests ordered by her nurse practitioner that I have questioned and have called her office 3 times requesting a return phone call. I left two messages and also the 3rd time talked to a physical person who said they would get back to me which again, they never did. I hate doing a negative review but if I can't reach staff and there is no follow through I don't feel I can trust the practice. Sorry Dr. Staats.

I have been seeing Dr. Staats for almost 4 years now ... and she is the most professional, thorough, competent, and capable physician I have seen in my 40 years of life. That means a lot, as I have been in the medical profession myself for over 10 years.

I signed up with Dr. Statts after my long time physician moved away from the area. On first meeting, I thought we would be a good fit, and so did she hence her accepting me as a patient. Soon after we were notified that she would be charging a $100+ annual fee just to have her as a doctor of record. We went ahead and paid that, and then on the next FOUR occasions when I called requesting an appointment, her staff told me to go to the Emergency Room because she couldn’t see me for a hurt foot, a headache, a fall off a bike, and a hurt wrist. Finally, I just fired her as my doctor because why pay her an annual fee when my primary care was being managed by the ER doctor?? She seemed to be a nice person, but that’s no way to run a medical practice.

I move regularly and have been all over the country and have NEVER heard of filling out all of the paperwork in advance of making an appointment. The nurse and the doctor have to review it before an appointment can be made. I am sure that there is good reason behind this policy, but it's strange. No thank you.

I am not real happy with my experience.... I called the office. I was told they were accepting new patients; I just needed to fill out the information from the website and drop it by the office, then they would call me for an appointment. So I did that. I dropped off the MANY pages of health history, etc. THEN I got a letter in the mail signed by the doctor that said they would be unable to see me because they had too many patients with my insurance. So I wasted my time for what??? They should have asked me up front what type of insurance I had and saved me a lot of trouble. Total frustration! And I wanted to see her based on her good reviews!

The dr I have been seeing for three years released me from care. Her reason was because took my RX to Miami because I would need my meds while we where there. My daughter was having one of many surgeries due to a dog mauling her and myself. The medication is lunesta I desperately need for sleeping. Anyway I had the rx the next month transferred back to Publix Crestview. They called her to ask if I could fill 2 days early since I was going to Nasheville to see my other daughter. She said no. Fine I understand. Then she sends me a letter saying she is discharging me as a patient for pharmacy hopping not pill shopping but pharmacy hopping wow. Now here is the problem I had an appointment for the 19th to get all my meds filled THYROID triglyceride migraine Tramadol lunesta DEPRESSION meds. I think the real reason was she canceled my appointment three times. Wouldn’t let me know my test results till I came in but kept changing the date. She said it was too bad to talk on the phone. Then I fussed because she dropped the ball on my husbands sleep apnea. The sleep clinic said he had a severe case of sleep apnea but she said well the nurse said the reason why she won’t give us his rx to get the machine was he only has a mild case and insurance denied it. Well yes insurance will deny because you sent it to the wrong insurance company. He hadn't had that insurance in a year. So I called her out. We bought him a sleep apnea machine via fb marketplace and his life has changed for the better. Now I don’t have life altering meds and the soonest anyone will see me is April 18th. Long story pissed 😤 off. Sorry I called her out for dropping the ball on Greg and I. Also the hours are constantly changing so when you think they are open you go by and nope we are closed for a day. Meds that you take everyday for 3 years and I am left going without for at least a month. I hope I don't end up in the hospital for discontinuing serious meds that you have to be weened off.
