About Lawrence Buckland, MD
I believe the practice of medicine touches every aspect of our lives. It takes place in a setting where our physical body, our mind, our beliefs and science all meet. I approach medicine in the pursuit of helping patients as they work to make longer, healthier and
happier lives their reality.
I aim to build a doctor-patient relationship based on mutual respect and trust. When I am seeing patients, my intention is to cultivate an atmosphere of collaboration where shared decision making is key. My role is to ask, listen, consider, teach and present options so I can help my patient be an informed decision maker.
Of course, my patients are seeking guidance as well. I have adopted a principal I call “Buckland’s First Rule of Medicine,” which is to ask myself a question: “What if it were me?” I find there’s a similarity to the Golden Rule, particularly when there are no clear-cut answers or when there are alternative approaches to a problem each with its own considerations. I will often ask the question aloud while sitting with my patients. A patient may say, “Yes! What if YOU were in my shoes? What would you do?” This is how I practice medicine. Evidence-based protocols can be used, but, in my opinion, so should this empathetic question.
My MDVIP-affiliated practice emphasizes prevention so I can support patients as they work toward preventing the preventable when possible. My MDVIP-affiliated practice offers services, including comprehensive, advanced health screenings and diagnostic tests, that go far beyond those found in concierge medicine practices. The results help us identify certain risk markers and help us develop a plan to stay on top of your health.
Secondly, in my practice, time is on our side. I have more time to listen to my patients’ unique stories. I take time to educate so I can help ensure patients feel supported. I have more time to advocate for my patients when speaking with specialists or insurance companies. I aim for my patients to feel they are not alone on their healthcare journey.
Finally, I work to minimize barriers to communication. All my patients have my cell phone number. They can text or call when needed. My goal is to help minimize delays when a more urgent issue arises.
I have practiced for more than 25 years at Paoli Family Medicine. For many years I have been named a “Top Doc” in Philadelphia magazine. My practice serves the western suburbs outside Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Local communities include Wayne, Berwyn and Paoli to the east; Exton, Chester Springs, Downingtown and Coatesville to the west; Phoenixville to the north; and West Chester to the south.

Frequently Asked Questions
Doctors who operate in the MDVIP models typically see far fewer patients than traditional primary care doctors. That gives them more time to develop deeper doctor-patient relationships that can lead to better outcomes. They can also offer conveniences that most primary care doctors can’t, including same- and next-day appointments. They’re available after hours for urgent matters. And they have time to focus on prevention. That focus begins with the MDVIP Wellness Program, which patients pay for with their annual membership fee.
Most MDVIP-affiliated primary care practices accept insurance (your physician can tell you whether they accept your specific insurance plan). Your annual fee pays for preventive care medical services that insurance usually doesn’t cover (e.g., advanced diagnostic testing and screenings). Your MDVIP-affiliated physician will continue to bill your insurance and charge copays, co-insurances and deductibles as he or she currently does for other medical services like sick visits.
MDVIP makes wellness and prevention easier by providing your physician with innovative tools and technology. MDVIP supports your physician’s practice and seeks to eliminate barriers to a positive healthcare experience. Your doctor will determine whether and how to incorporate these tools at his/her discretion.
