About Lorenzo O. Hernandez, MD
I believe individualized healthcare is built on trust, more time and deeper connection. My approach to wellness is centered on personalized, relationship-based care—taking more time to listen to each patient as an individual, not as a diagnosis. I value longer conversations, education and informed decision-making so that every patient can feel heard, supported and more confident in their care.
As a family medicine physician, I provide comprehensive, personalized healthcare with a stronger focus on prevention and long-term wellbeing. My areas of interest include sports medicine, men’s health, nutrition, metabolic syndrome, weight-loss, sleep health, and emotional well-being. I am also experienced with and offer hormone replacement therapy, as clinically appropriate.
I proudly serve patients in St. Petersburg, Florida, and surrounding communities, offering care to individuals and families seeking a more attentive and supportive primary care experience. I speak English and Spanish and strive for communication and comfort for a diverse patient population.
My MDVIP-affiliated practice, often compared to a concierge medicine practice, offers conveniences like same- or next-day appointments. My practice features longer appointments and the ability for patients to reach me during and after hours.

Reviews from the web
Unfortunately, my experience was extremely disappointing. Dr. Hernandez came into the room very abruptly, immediately cutting me off when I tried to explain my history. I told him I was recovering from neurosurgery last year and a new complication this year, but he insisted he already knew everything from my records and did not need to hear from me. When I said I wanted a chance to speak, he stood up, told me he would leave and only return when I had “calmed down.” I was not uncalm, I was simply asking to be heard.
At that point, I called my husband on speakerphone so I would have a witness to the conversation. Dr. Hernandez’s tone was somewhat more civil when he returned, but the damage was done. Patients deserve a physician who listens and respects their perspective. If you are looking for a primary care doctor who is compassionate and willing to truly listen, I would not recommend Dr. Hernandez.
I also handed him a written narrative of my recent history. When he took it from me, he thumbed through it and said boy this is a lot of words How rude! If I could give zero stars I would and I don't even know how he has all these five star reviews here.
I also saw a nurse practitioner at this office previously and had the same experience. Stay away.
As far as improvement, breathe doc. Make the time and take it.
Profesional and good listener!
Frequently Asked Questions
Doctors who operate in the MDVIP models typically see far fewer patients than traditional primary care doctors. That gives them more time to develop deeper doctor-patient relationships that can lead to better outcomes. They can also offer conveniences that most primary care doctors can’t, including same- and next-day appointments. They’re available after hours for urgent matters. And they have time to focus on prevention. That focus begins with the MDVIP Wellness Program, which patients pay for with their annual membership fee.
Most MDVIP-affiliated primary care practices accept insurance (your physician can tell you whether they accept your specific insurance plan). Your annual fee pays for preventive care medical services that insurance usually doesn’t cover (e.g., advanced diagnostic testing and screenings). Your MDVIP-affiliated physician will continue to bill your insurance and charge copays, co-insurances and deductibles as he or she currently does for other medical services like sick visits.
MDVIP makes wellness and prevention easier by providing your physician with innovative tools and technology. MDVIP supports your physician’s practice and seeks to eliminate barriers to a positive healthcare experience. Your doctor will determine whether and how to incorporate these tools at his/her discretion.
