About Mark E. Oberlies, MD
The practice of internal medicine is both challenging and humbling. It takes years of experience to develop confidence and competence. During my twenty-five years of combined medical training and clinical practice, and through thousands of patient visits in hospitals, nursing homes and the outpatient clinic, I have faced countless medical issues with my patients. Listening to, collaborating with and trusting in each other as we work towards the answers has become both my style and philosophy in the practice of internal medicine. A relationship built on trust and mutual respect is essential, and without that relationship, the physician cannot succeed.
My new MDVIP-affiliated internal medicine practice is dedicated to a more personalized approach and seeks to protect that precious time-sensitive, doctor-patient relationship. It allows me to meet patients "where they are at” and help them get to where they want to be. This is what personalized healthcare means to me and what the promise of this model of primary medical care delivery offers to both patient and physician.
As a generalist physician, my life's work is devoted to the accumulation of practical medical knowledge so that I might share that with motivated like-minded patients in order to collaborate on their optimal health and well-being. I also try my best to “walk the walk” with a healthy diet and lifestyle and, in this way, I feel that I'm very much traveling along with my patients on a journey toward better health and well-being. My MDVIP-affiliated practice, often compared to a concierge medicine practice, offers conveniences like same- or next-day appointments.
My internal medicine practice is located in West Omaha, but I see patients from the greater Omaha, Council Bluffs and surrounding areas. I am on staff at CHI Lakeside Hospital, have relationships with a wide variety of specialist physicians in the community and have been selected by my peers for inclusion in Best Doctors in America® from 2007 to 2018.

Frequently Asked Questions
Doctors who operate in the MDVIP models typically see far fewer patients than traditional primary care doctors. That gives them more time to develop deeper doctor-patient relationships that can lead to better outcomes. They can also offer conveniences that most primary care doctors can’t, including same- and next-day appointments. They’re available after hours for urgent matters. And they have time to focus on prevention. That focus begins with the MDVIP Wellness Program, which patients pay for with their annual membership fee.
Most MDVIP-affiliated primary care practices accept insurance (your physician can tell you whether they accept your specific insurance plan). Your annual fee pays for preventive care medical services that insurance usually doesn’t cover (e.g., advanced diagnostic testing and screenings). Your MDVIP-affiliated physician will continue to bill your insurance and charge copays, co-insurances and deductibles as he or she currently does for other medical services like sick visits.
MDVIP makes wellness and prevention easier by providing your physician with innovative tools and technology. MDVIP supports your physician’s practice and seeks to eliminate barriers to a positive healthcare experience. Your doctor will determine whether and how to incorporate these tools at his/her discretion.
