My Philosophy and Approach to Wellness...

Being an internist for the past 25 years has taught me that what my patients want most is for me to simply listen to them. My patients always feel better when they are heard and not rushed. Since affiliating with MDVIP, my smaller, primary care practice affords me the necessary time to get to know everyone on a personal level. I have more time to partner with each patient, developing a relationship built on trust, respect, open communication and empathy. This has helped patients both diagnostically and therapeutically.

I am committed to providing individualized medical care and being able to my patients' needs during appointments in a comfortable and unhurried setting. Building a customized wellness plan takes time, support and partnership.

I am one of only a few internal medicine solo practitioners in Wayne, New Jersey, and I am certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine. I also have a strong interest in cardiovascular health and diabetes prevention and treatment. My MDVIP-affiliated practice offers services, including comprehensive, advanced health screenings and diagnostic tests, that go far beyond those found in concierge medicine practices.

My personalized healthcare practice serves Passaic, Morris and Bergen counties.  I’m on staff at St. Joseph’s, one of the largest medical centers in the state of New Jersey and serve on several of its leadership committees. In 2013, I was honored to receive the Distinguished Physician Award for St. Joseph’s Wayne Hospital. I am proud to be a United States Air Force veteran.

One Saturday evening my wife and I were headed to meet family for a celebration. On the guessed it...we had a serious car accident. Our car was hit from behind and sent across 3 lanes of the highway, hit the cement barrier head-on and traveled back 3 lanes to come to rest on the shoulder of the highway. We were taken to an emergency room and sent home very early the next morning… See more

What do you say about a doctor who is comforting, compassionate, a great diagnostician and yet humble enough to listen to your concerns and point of view? Dr. Martin Neilan encompasses all those qualities and more. I am not intimidated to speak with him about any symptoms I am encountering even if it is outside his practice as an internist. I like to run my thoughts past him for his honest… See more

Dr. Neilan has been our family physician for many years...long before MDVIP...which is why we stayed with him. His caring, gentle ways have never waivered. Whether its the good, the bad or the ugly...Dr. Neilan just has a way of handling the situation so that you calm down and believe he's going to resolve the problem in his calm manner...and believe me, I've thrown him some curve… See more
