About Michael S. Duque, MD

Medicine was and is an ever-present part of my life. I come from three generations of medical doctors, and my five siblings are all physicians practicing in various specialties.

I practice internal medicine and primary care. As the famous saying goes, an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. I believe this is true, which is why I offer the annual MDVIP Wellness Program, which can help identify risk markers. As an MDVIP-affiliated physician, I have more time to listen to my patients, get to know them on a deeper level, and educate them about prevention measures that could help minimize complications, suffering or loss of independence.

I aim to be a dedicated physician who can encourage, educate and guide patients as they pursue being healthier versions of themselves, which I believe can alter the trajectory of their lives for the better. I think that a healthier lifestyle sets the stage for patients to live happier, more productive lives. My MDVIP-affiliated practice offers services, including comprehensive, advanced health screenings and diagnostic tests, that go far beyond those found in concierge medicine practices.

Prior to attending medical school I obtained a degree in psychology. I value an individual’s personal life story—values and priorities, triumphs and struggles, hopes and fears, their own unique personality traits and medical and family histories.

Through having more time to spend with patients and the results of the Wellness Program, I can work with patients, guided by medical recommendations and evidence-based best practices, to develop tailored action plans. I believe a plan can be insightful, with worthwhile goals and interventions that can suit the context of who you are, what you value and your life situation.

I want to encourage a relationship where patients can be open and honest regarding any symptoms or medical concern. I, too, am open to discuss possible disease conditions or medication questions. Your insights and alternative points of view will always be part of any discussion regarding your health. My goal is for you to be listened to regarding the medical issues important to you and your care.

My hope is that you will find in me an empathetic doctor who is warm, gentle, genuine and easy to talk to. I specialize in internal medicine and primary care and have additional training in nephrology.

My practice is located in Newport County, Rhode Island, and serves Middletown, Newport, Portsmouth, Jamestown, Narragansett, North Kingstown, East Greenwich and the surrounding areas in Massachusetts and Connecticut.

Since Dr. Duque took over this practice in 2025, my experience has been very poor. I had two scheduled office visits where I had to wait over an hour each time. In my first meeting with Dr. Duque, he had not taken the time to read my history. The last straw was when I seriously injured my foot I called three times in a week and NEVER got a call back from Dr. Duque. This is not a concierge-style healthcare practice anymore. I've since left the practice and found great healthcare elsewhere, but MDVIP is still calling me to pay the last quarter. I refuse, because I've already paid too much money for a concierge service that doesn't exist.

Absolutely the best. He is completely interested in your concerns and takes the time to explain and make sure you understand

Frequently Asked Questions

Doctors who operate in the MDVIP models typically see far fewer patients than traditional primary care doctors. That gives them more time to develop deeper doctor-patient relationships that can lead to better outcomes. They can also offer conveniences that most primary care doctors can’t, including same- and next-day appointments. They’re available after hours for urgent matters. And they have time to focus on prevention. That focus begins with the MDVIP Wellness Program, which patients pay for with their annual membership fee.

Most MDVIP-affiliated primary care practices accept insurance (your physician can tell you whether they accept your specific insurance plan). Your annual fee pays for preventive care medical services that insurance usually doesn’t cover (e.g., advanced diagnostic testing and screenings). Your MDVIP-affiliated physician will continue to bill your insurance and charge copays, co-insurances and deductibles as he or she currently does for other medical services like sick visits.

MDVIP makes wellness and prevention easier by providing your physician with innovative tools and technology. MDVIP supports your physician’s practice and seeks to eliminate barriers to a positive healthcare experience. Your doctor will determine whether and how to incorporate these tools at his/her discretion.
