About Michael P. Johnson, MD
I love spending time with my patients, getting to know them, earning their trust and guiding them towards healthier lives. I take pride in helping keep people healthy, emphasizing wellness and prevention, using medication judiciously and engaging a network of specialists and advanced services, when needed. I have come to appreciate that participating in a personalized health care model that brings patients and doctors close together again is one of the most important health care decisions a person can make. Similar to concierge medicine practices, I also offer conveniences like same- or next-day appointments that start on time.
I am board-certified in internal medicine and have been practicing primary care in Rhode Island for more than 20 years. I am experienced in all aspects of outpatient and inpatient internal medicine. I am affiliated with Rhode Island and Miriam Hospitals and speak fluent Greek.
I invite you to experience the difference between a traditional volume-driven primary care practice and a practice that delivers individualized, conscientious care without time pressures.

Dr. Johnson, has.a staff that cares and is nice to deal with. The follow up that both the Doctor and Staff give you, I have not experienced before.
Dr. Johnson, also his manner and his dedication to his patients is to be admired.
I, my husband and daughter are devotees and we send our appreciation and warmest wishes for “Doctors Day.”
When he joined MDVIP it was an easy decision. Here are the reasons :
1. Impressed with the complete annual physical process.
2. Utilizes the statistics from testing to analysis what is definitely wrong and what I need to do.
3. Very low pressure environment.
4. Actually answers all…

Reviews from the web

Dr. Johnson has been there 110% for my wife and myself. He was always accessible with the many phone calls that I made and he often called me just to follow up or to see how we were doing. He even visited her in the hospital !
The stress of this has often been overwhelming but he was pro-active in his medical support and guidance.
Currently my wife is in a Home Hospice program. I know she would have passed many months ago without his expertise, caring support, and consistent involvement. Unfortunately the length and depth of her problems were eventually too much for her body and reached a point where our hope for recovery was no longer a realistic option.
Another plus, is that his staff is Outstanding! They all work as a team and go above and beyond extending themselves in helping us and following up - STAT !!
They truly have been a blessing for us during these trying times.
Thank you Dr. Johnson and MDVIP.

The concern I have is the membership of mdivp is quite high especially for retirees . Other than that I feel that I am there in good hands .

He is very thorough, honest, and listens to you, not just hears you, he listens to you. No matter what you bring him, he will figure it out. He is very smart and is able to diagnose things quickly. The wait time is worth it at a good drs office, you want to spend time with him too, so be patient, things come up that we sometimes forget to tell him or he finds something.
I'd rather wait 3 hours for a GOOD, THOROUGH, Dr to diagnose and check me over properly then one that only takes a half hour from beginning to end....

Frequently Asked Questions
Doctors who operate in the MDVIP models typically see far fewer patients than traditional primary care doctors. That gives them more time to develop deeper doctor-patient relationships that can lead to better outcomes. They can also offer conveniences that most primary care doctors can’t, including same- and next-day appointments. They’re available after hours for urgent matters. And they have time to focus on prevention. That focus begins with the MDVIP Wellness Program, which patients pay for with their annual membership fee.
Most MDVIP-affiliated primary care practices accept insurance (your physician can tell you whether they accept your specific insurance plan). Your annual fee pays for preventive care medical services that insurance usually doesn’t cover (e.g., advanced diagnostic testing and screenings). Your MDVIP-affiliated physician will continue to bill your insurance and charge copays, co-insurances and deductibles as he or she currently does for other medical services like sick visits.
MDVIP makes wellness and prevention easier by providing your physician with innovative tools and technology. MDVIP supports your physician’s practice and seeks to eliminate barriers to a positive healthcare experience. Your doctor will determine whether and how to incorporate these tools at his/her discretion.
