About Robert L. Schubert, MD

We tend to take our health for granted. We live hectic lives, distracted by all the things that demand our attention while not paying enough attention to our most important possession – our health. We push ourselves harder and harder, presuming we will be just as healthy tomorrow as we were yesterday while doing very little to maintain ourselves. 

Most agree that the best way to maintain your car is not to drive it until it doesn’t run anymore, and then see if it can be fixed. This is unfortunately a very common approach to taking care ourselves; many of us take no time to reflect on our health until we're sick. Our current healthcare system is based on this concept as well, which is why I chose to become an MDVIP-affiliated physician. Now, I have the time to care for you personally and proactively, which are the keys to helping you enjoy the healthiest life possible. 

I am double board certified in Family Medicine and Clinical Lipidology. I focus on the early diagnosis and aggressive treatment of cardiovascular disease (the most common cause of disability and death in the United States). My expertise lies in diabetes, high blood pressure, cholesterol problems and additional causes of strokes, heart attacks and other forms of vascular disease. I use advanced diagnostics, including genetic testing, inflammatory markers, imaging and advanced particle analysis to find vascular disease early, allowing me adequate time to work with each patient to develop a specialized treatment plan. You can’t treat everyone's needs the same way. That is the value of MDVIP’s model of personalized medicine. Similar to concierge medicine practices, I also offer conveniences like same- or next-day appointments that start on time. 

We can now better find potentially deadly illnesses before symptoms emerge. This is a major focus of my practice - prevention. The best path to a longer, healthier life is through a healthier lifestyle, avoiding disease and seeking early detection. This cannot be done passively. As a private doctor, I help my patients become active, informed participants in their own healthcare, and I believe the close partnerships I share with my patients is critical to them being well and staying well.

I contracted Covid in December 2020 when littel was known about the disease. After testing - I contacted the State agency (DHEC) and Dr. Schubert. He prescribed some meds for cough and told me what to look for as complications. Doctors who operate in the MDVIP models typically see far fewer patients than traditional primary care doctors. That gives them more time to develop deeper doctor-patient relationships that can lead to better outcomes. They can also offer conveniences that most primary care doctors can’t, including same- and next-day appointments. They’re available after hours for urgent matters. And they have time to focus on prevention. That focus begins with the MDVIP Wellness Program, which patients pay for with their annual membership fee.

Most MDVIP-affiliated primary care practices accept insurance (your physician can tell you whether they accept your specific insurance plan). Your annual fee pays for preventive care medical services that insurance usually doesn’t cover (e.g., advanced diagnostic testing and screenings). Your MDVIP-affiliated physician will continue to bill your insurance and charge copays, co-insurances and deductibles as he or she currently does for other medical services like sick visits.

MDVIP makes wellness and prevention easier by providing your physician with innovative tools and technology. MDVIP supports your physician’s practice and seeks to eliminate barriers to a positive healthcare experience. Your doctor will determine whether and how to incorporate these tools at his/her discretion.
