About Sarah Canyon, MD, PhD
I believe that health is the foundation for a full, vibrant life—one that can allow individuals, families and communities to thrive. As a physician trained in family medicine, lifestyle medicine and menopause care, I take a whole-person, preventive approach that helps patients as they work to flourish—with support from a physician who genuinely cares.
My passion lies in supporting efforts to help prevent disease before it starts, using evidence-based lifestyle interventions as powerful tools that can influence lasting, meaningful change.
Over the course of my career, I’ve cared for people across the entire healthcare journey—both in Australia and the U.S. I’ve delivered babies, treated emergencies in rural communities, admitted patients to hospitals and sat beside them in hospice. These experiences shape the way I practice today: as a steady, compassionate partner in the outpatient setting—someone who knows your story, helps you navigate complexity and keeps your care personal and individualized.
I look forward to working with you to build realistic, personalized wellness plans rooted in prevention and lifestyle medicine. Together, we can focus on the daily choices that shape your health—such as nutrition, movement, sleep, stress, relationships and purpose—and create space for honest conversations that can help lead to sustainable change.
I practice medicine with heart, perspective and more time to spend with you—supporting you through life’s transitions and daily decisions with compassion and a dedicated commitment to your health.

Frequently Asked Questions
MDVIP-affiliated physicians use the Wellness Program Plus to help prevent little things from becoming big things – working to help patients enjoy life and be healthier. Those who value their health will appreciate having a closer doctor-patient relationship. Because MDVIP-affiliated physicians have smaller practices, they have more time for you, so you can receive the individualized care and service you deserve. Physicians offering the Plus program have a different set of testing to choose from than physicians in the traditional program; this testing looks at additional health risks. Plus doctors also use an advanced cognitive testing system to evaluate brain health and offer a medication review program.
MDVIP makes wellness and prevention easier by providing your physician with innovative tools and technology. MDVIP supports your physician’s practice and seeks to eliminate barriers to a positive healthcare experience. Your doctor will determine whether and how to incorporate these tools at his/her discretion.
Most MDVIP-affiliated primary care practices accept insurance (your physician can tell you whether they accept your specific insurance plan). Your annual fee pays for preventive care medical services that insurance usually doesn’t cover (e.g., advanced diagnostic testing and screenings). Your MDVIP-affiliated physician will continue to bill your insurance and charge copays, co-insurances and deductibles as he or she currently does for other medical services like sick visits.
