About Steven P. Wittmer, MD
My philosophy of doctoring is elucidated in the following excerpts from the Oath of Maimonides (1135-1204 CE); noted physician, philosopher and scholar:
“May the love for my art actuate me at all times… Grant me the strength, time and opportunity always to correct what I have acquired, always to extend its domain; for knowledge is immense and the spirit of man can extend indefinitely to enrich itself daily with new requirements”.
I have a profound interest in the interaction of diet and health in a patient-centered physician relationship, which is a cornerstone of the MDVIP mission. Quoting Maimonides again, “No disease that can be treated by diet should be treated with any other means”.
I am a broadly-versed general internist of over thirty years’ experience excited to offer this personalized healthcare approach in the Eastern Shore and Baldwin County. I have interests in cardiovascular health, diabetes and hypertension. I am an attending physician at Thomas Hospital in Fairhope, at which I am also on the Medical Executive Committee and was a Patient Safety Hero in 2018. As your private physician who knows your health inside and out, it is important to manage your care if you are hospitalized. Similar to conveniences often associated with concierge medicine practices, I also offer same- or next-day appointments that start on time. Welcome to the personalized health care of my MDVIP-affiliated practice which affords you the tools, wealth of information and compassion for your well-being!

What our members are saying
in all of them. My doctor and I have discussions about my total health not just new occurances like you get some places. Amazing that I can't think of anything
that should be changed or a negative comment to share. So far…
However, he suggested that he could order a Cologuard test just to be sure there were no problems. The Cologuard test came back positive and he sent me to Dr. Eaves, a gastroenterologist. As a result, I had 4 very large polyps in my colon…
Reviews from the web
Love that he takes the time to really talk to you. Plus he listens to you. That is rare now days. He has been my doctor for around 8 years and I have nothing but good things to say. 😷
But I would like to see some type of a loyalty discount and or usage discount towards your next year's purchase
some of them at bay. You feel like you're part of the system
instead of somewhere in the distance. A very caring excellent
group of people.
Frequently Asked Questions
Doctors who operate in the MDVIP models typically see far fewer patients than traditional primary care doctors. That gives them more time to develop deeper doctor-patient relationships that can lead to better outcomes. They can also offer conveniences that most primary care doctors can’t, including same- and next-day appointments. They’re available after hours for urgent matters. And they have time to focus on prevention. That focus begins with the MDVIP Wellness Program, which patients pay for with their annual membership fee.
Most MDVIP-affiliated primary care practices accept insurance (your physician can tell you whether they accept your specific insurance plan). Your annual fee pays for preventive care medical services that insurance usually doesn’t cover (e.g., advanced diagnostic testing and screenings). Your MDVIP-affiliated physician will continue to bill your insurance and charge copays, co-insurances and deductibles as he or she currently does for other medical services like sick visits.
MDVIP makes wellness and prevention easier by providing your physician with innovative tools and technology. MDVIP supports your physician’s practice and seeks to eliminate barriers to a positive healthcare experience. Your doctor will determine whether and how to incorporate these tools at his/her discretion.
