About Stewart Greisman, MD, FACP

I trained to be an academic rheumatologist but realized that I enjoyed taking care of the whole person, not just one aspect of their health. When I finished my fellowship at The Hospital for Special Surgery, I stepped into my dad’s internal medicine practice on Manhattan’s west side. I was welcomed by the patients as family; I was the son who was going to keep the practice going so they would not lose the medical home they had known for 50 years. Since 1986 I have strived to fill that mandate, to care for my “family” of patients by providing comprehensive state of the art preventive health screenings and education regarding wellness. When they are ill, my academic background is an asset in diagnosis and treatment.

I have partnered with MDVIP because it will allow me to continue to provide personalized health care in this time of increasing pressures on private practices. Similar to concierge medicine practices, I also offer conveniences like same- or next-day appointments that start on time. The program provides the gift of time, a rare commodity in busy practices these days. Time translates to more in depth wellness examinations, more educational opportunities for nutritional and exercise interventions and more ability to coordinate care at times of illness. As a board-certified rheumatologist, I have added expertise in sports injuries and exercise programs, back problems, autoimmune diseases and arthritis.

What our members are saying

I've been seeing Dr Greisman for years.
He's always been highly knowledgeable and helpful.

Even before moving to MDVIP, I knew that, always, when I had an appointment with Dr. Greisman, I would not feel rushed or nervous about using too much of his time. I knew I could go through every one of my concerns, in whatever detail I needed, and he would give it full consideration: listen and explain. I have never left his exam room until feeling all of my issues had been addressed. I value…

Before I was diagnosed with 3 types of arthritis, I went to a rheumatologist that was recommended by someone other than my primary care doctor, Stewart Greisman.
When I told the recommended doctor who my primary doctor was he said “if you know Stewart Greisman WHAT are you doing here? He’s one of the best in the field “

I am reluctant to share on social media, but I want to express my gratitude to my doctor of over twenty-five years. Stewart Greisman is a doctor who listens to his patients, and who takes time to learn about them. I've never been rushed, or felt disregarded. Anxieties are calmed, concerns are addressed, and calls or emails are promptly returned. There is always room to be seen at short notice. Wellness exams are thorough and detailed, and should one need follow-up, Dr. Greisman is careful not to cause unnecessary alarm, a boon to those of us who get anxious. Test results are returned with clear explanations, instructions, and answers. Dr. Greisman conveys genuine concern about his patients and takes their concerns seriously while treating them with patience and kindness - often difficult to find in our current medical system.

Dr Greisman was my Rheumatologist for almost two decades. When he joined MDVIP I was happy to join with him. Over the years I have valued his care and I was certain that it would only get better and it certainly was the correct choice for me. Dr Greisman has been so supportive and compassionate towards me that I will remain his patient forever and a day.
Sincerely,

25 years or so ago, within my employment as a teacher in a private school with 20+ years of such work experience, I had to choose a new internist. An older, wise, savvy, and fit colleague suggested her own doctor to me, raving about him in every way. Following this excellent recommendation from such a wonderful friend, I made the very healthy long-lasting decision to sign up for the same services from Dr Stewart Greisman. He specialized in gerontology then when I was a young stallion at 45 years old and has since then still been very thoughtfully and patiently caring for me, even now as a youthful resilient, albeit shattered and battered here and there, old (aka classic) gray mare at 75 years of age.

As a member now of a concierge organization of doctors, his services now are significantly more costly and I, of course, would prefer them to be less so. In retaining my place as his patient, besides considering his impressive well-earned professional accolades and awards, I made my choice to continue as Dr Greisman's concierge patient because, from direct personal experience, I value his intelligence, flexibility, open mind, gentlemanly style, thoughtful patience, personal values, and youthful energy, as well as the benefits of keeping a healthcare relationship with a good longtime provider who has already done his specific part in treating me through life's hits and heavies. (I have had AND still have them, for one example, the chronic lasting challenges of serious electrical injury and its induced brain injury, my one concern here worth noting being that every doctor who does not strictly specialize in such 'hidden' health challenges would benefit, as thus would their patients with such challenges, by becoming significantly more versed about them, difficult to obtain as that improved sensitivity would be). I have definitely benefitted from his considerate suggestions regarding diverse health issues ( and perhaps may benefit even more if I become less hesitant or resistant about employing a few more of his suggestions re new long-term medications, as I am also a long-time user of alternative practices and also have a cautionary history of susceptibility to medicine side effects ). Dr Greisman seems to give expanded time and patience when attending to any of his patients, again even when he was not in a concierge operation. In my experience, I too know that he does not have to be a know-it-all and will consult other health resources to give the best info or suggestions he can to patients, when a guesstimate or stubborn doctoral 'Godliness' won't do. Believe it or not, and I bet most people would believe me on this point, that openness, respect, and patience which he has is not a common quantity. There have been a few moments when I sense we've been 'off' but I sense that is largely because of Dr G's extended work and dedication to it and perhaps some of my own more uncomfortable circumstances. We are only human though, although Dr Greisman seems to admirably push his limits.

One last-ing note: what higher high five can I give Dr Greisman than to say that my sister, who has accompanied me on a few of my more recent consultations, wishes all doctors tried to be as thorough, caring, and friendly as Dr Greisman appears to be. In sum, between sis and me, 4 thumbs up for Dr Stewart Greisman!

Dr. Greisman is attentive, responsive, caring, knowledgeable, reasonable, and reassuring. He knows how to advise without preaching or scaring, to listen closely and without judgment, to answer questions honestly and fully. I trust what he says and counsels but have no trouble explaining my reservations to him when he suggests something that I don't want to do. And he is generally able to see my point and make appropriate modifications. His hands-on care (whether blood drawing, checking of basic functions or injections) are administered with finesse and compassion. His referrals for specialists are generally terrific. His hospital affiliation (Mt. Sinai) meets my needs. He was extraordinary with my (very difficult) aging mother. He has helped keep me (and my family) healthy for many years.

I have been a patient of Dr. Greisman's for decades and have never had a bad experience with him. He's extremely well-versed in medicine and also very friendly, patient, calm and empathetic. He's always readily available when you need him. He keeps very good records. He tells me what he thinks I need to do and gives me thorough annual checkups, but he respects my personal preferences and doesn't try to pressure me into tests and procedures that I don't think are necessary. He listens to what's happening with me, and together we discuss and make adjustments to my medications when needed. He's not overly activist or alarmist, and I like his if-it-ain't-broke-don't-fix-it attitude. For me, Dr. Greisman is ideal.

Frequently Asked Questions

Doctors who operate in the MDVIP models typically see far fewer patients than traditional primary care doctors. That gives them more time to develop deeper doctor-patient relationships that can lead to better outcomes. They can also offer conveniences that most primary care doctors can’t, including same- and next-day appointments. They’re available after hours for urgent matters. And they have time to focus on prevention. That focus begins with the MDVIP Wellness Program, which patients pay for with their annual membership fee.

Most MDVIP-affiliated primary care practices accept insurance (your physician can tell you whether they accept your specific insurance plan). Your annual fee pays for preventive care medical services that insurance usually doesn’t cover (e.g., advanced diagnostic testing and screenings). Your MDVIP-affiliated physician will continue to bill your insurance and charge copays, co-insurances and deductibles as he or she currently does for other medical services like sick visits.

MDVIP makes wellness and prevention easier by providing your physician with innovative tools and technology. MDVIP supports your physician’s practice and seeks to eliminate barriers to a positive healthcare experience. Your doctor will determine whether and how to incorporate these tools at his/her discretion.
