I was recently interviewed on FOX Carolina to discuss Kidney Awareness Month. Kidney disease kills more people each year than breast cancer or prostate cancer.

In fact, my grandfather passed away from it. What many people don’t realize is that unmanaged blood pressure and diabetes cause more than 50% of kidney disease cases. Since symptoms develop over time and mimic those of other conditions, they’re often overlooked. This is why kidney disease is referred to a silent killer and it’s so important to partner with your doctor to stay on top of early detection screenings, manage medications and follow lifestyle recommendations.

About the Physician
Michael Kopscik, MD

Healthcare is not one-size-fits-all. As your physician, I'm committed to delivering personalized care that aligns with your unique needs, values and goals. My practice is built on listening – I believe in creating a judgment-free environment where open communication forms the foundation of our partnership. Whether you’re dealing with multiple chronic conditions or simply want to stay healthy as you age, I'll work with you to create a healthcare plan that can fit your life.

My MDVIP-affiliated practice, often compared to a concierge medicine practice, offers conveniences like same- or next-day appointments. I keep my patient panel intentionally small, which means visits that can last as long as needed and a focus on prevention in addition to discussing illness. I'm also fellowship-trained in primary care sports medicine, offering non-operative orthopedic care for active patients who want to keep moving.

As a physician in private practice, I collaborate with Upstate South Carolina hospital systems to advocate for your care. My primary care practice serves patients throughout the Upstate and greater Greenville, S.C., area, including Spartanburg, Greer, Mauldin, Five Forks, Piedmont and Anderson.

My wife and I are proud South Carolina natives and Clemson graduates who love calling the Upstate home. When we're not working, you’ll find us exploring the state's beautiful lakes and beaches with our dog, Ellie, or spending time with family and friends.
