Dr. Barber, a doctor whose calming voice heals me!
I have been a patient of Dr. Barber for nearly 20 years! I am now 82 years old. I feel that he understands me well and he is in tune with my health! I had an health episode 18 months ago or so. Suddenly I lost 10 pounds of my weight in two weeks!! I was alarmed and scared. I had no other problems and Dr. Barber was on his summer vacation and had asked me to get a blood test before he returned. My son who is a physician specializing in endocrinology and diabetes kept assuring me that I should wait for Dr. Barber. By the time he returned from his vacation, my blood test results were on his desk. He called me right away and I explained my weight loss problem!! I told him that I feel well otherwise. He told me to come see him the first thing in the morning. I had had jumped over the borderline into honest-to-goodness diabetic territory. He went through my blood test results. He put me on Metformin 500mg twice a day medicine. He wads telling me for couple of years that I was a borderline diabetic. He stayed closely with my case for the next year or so with meetings every three months. This year in my annual physical he said he will cut down on my Metformin 500mg once a day and in fact my glucose level and A1C are all very normal. Stayed in communication with him last summer when I was on three months vacation in India and sent him the results of my blood test done there. He promptly replied very good. This year he gave me an A- grade in my annual health assessment! He is a tough grader and I always ask him to grade my test! This is the first time he elevated me to the A range!!! While I wish him well I really want him to stay working and not retire!!! He always stays in touch with me on the telephone to convey any pending issues related my health.
