Forever I wanted to go to Africa, but my husband always vetoed it. He said “I don’t want to see you die in the bush from a bowel obstruction”. If it had not been for Dr. Borchers, I’d still be dreaming about Africa. In 2012, my chronic condition resulting from ovarian cancer, numerous surgeries, chemo and radiation brought me to the end of my rope. With constant visits to the hospital ER due to stomach obstructions and further surgeries, a friend convinced Dr. Borchers to take me as a patient. Dr. Borchers was so in demand in our valley, he didn’t have the time or band width to take new patients. With Dr. Borchers as my quarterback in running numerous tests and coordinating medical results from a spectrum of doctors ranging from Aspen to Glenwood Springs to Denver and ultimately Cleveland Clinic, it was finally determined that I had a severe stricture that required surgery and a large resection of my small bowel. As I recovered from the surgery over several months in 2013, I began to wonder whether my husband would feel comfortable in going to Africa now. After 5 years of clear sailing, my husband relented and agreed to a trip! In 2017 my dream was realized…and followed by 2 more trips in 2019 and 2023. Dr. Borchers continues to be my rock, finding new ways to lessen the pain and potential ramifications of what I call my “episodes”. With more than a dozen abdominal surgeries in my history, I will always be susceptible to blockages due adhesions and it’s a constant battle to avert another surgery. Thank you, Dr. Borchers for taking me as a patient, being so knowledgeable, and having the middle name of “accessible” at all hours.
