My wife received a dog bite while on vacation in Virginia. Initially it wasn't a big concern knowing this family dog was up to date with shots etc. Three days later though she developed a definite infection reaction with fever, chills and swelling of her finger. We went to the emergency department and after a blood test she was admitted into the hospital for treatment due to the serious blood borne pathogen she had developed. We contacted our primary doctor Laura Babe in Michigan and informed her of the problem. The hospital specialists put my wife on a 14 day regimen of antibiotics to be delivered into a midline port 3 times a day. The training and medications were supplied so she could go home for the treatment. She also needed to be seen by a doctor after a few days to check out the results. We contacted Dr Babe and she connected us with MDVIP associate Dr Assesor. This gave us a local doctor in case of any new issues or prescription needs. We scheduled an appointment with Dr Assesor and she was a thoughtful careful understanding physician like Dr Babe. She took the time to talk with my wife and understand her background and concerns. This proved to be extremely helpful when on the last day of antibiotic treatment my wife received a message from the hospital that a blood test said she had .the serious bacteria we thought we had finished treating. This was on a Sunday morning. My wife tried to reach the infectious disease specialist from the hospital, and searched on her patient portal to discover what was wrong but to no avail. Then she called Dr Assesor who not only called her back quickly but went to discover the background of the hospital message. It turned out the blood test referred to was from the first initial blood draw from 2 weeks previous which had been sent to the Mayo clinic for corroboration. It had confirmed the same germ as the local test had. But it wasn't the result of the blood draw from 2 days previous which later came back as all clear. Dr Assesor was able to discover this timeline and called my wife back with the explanation all within 2 hours. Great relief was supplied by her skilled supports.
We would like to thank Drs Babe and Assesor for their assistance and caring. This event proves the value of having membership in MDVIP and the great doctors who are part of it.
