I have a cancer called Multiple Myeloma which in generally well-managed. In the summer of 2023 I started experiencing neck pain and this got progressively worse because I had a vitrectomy in my right eye after which I was forced to keep my head facing downwards most of the time. I went to see Dr Johnson and he did a thorough examination, listened to my symptoms and asked about my various treatments. Instead of just sending me to a PT or giving me painkillers he said he wanted to rule out anything major and ordered an Xray of my neck. That Xray showed some issues in my cervical spine and so he immediately ordered an MRI of my cervical spine. That MRI showed a plasmacytoma in my C3 vertebra. Dr Johnson called both me and my oncologist immediately and arranged for me to go to the ER at a nearby hospital and then arranged for the neurosurgeon to examine me and prepare me for surgery. Within a few days the neurosurgeon carried out an anterior cervical corpectomy and fusion on my C3. My neurosurgeon was very clear that the damage to my C3 vertebra was so severe that an impact on the area could have severed the spinal cord and have been fatal.
I have absolutely no doubt that Dr Johnson's care, thoroughness, sensitivity to my chronic condition, and swiftness in arranging the appropriate care all saved my life. I would not be writing this today if it were not for him.
Thank you Dr Johnson, from me, my wife and all of my family!
