I learned about Dr. Okamura when he was my wife's doctor in the mid-1990s. We were both impressed with how thorough he was. She never felt cheated on his time or medical expertise. When my new health plan prompted a change in primary physicians, I immediately chose Dr. Okamura. When he joined MDVIP several years later, I was hesitant because I thought I was too young and in too good health to benefit fully from the concierge service. A year later, after reflecting on why I stayed with Dr. Okamura so long, I enrolled in MDVIP. That choice saved my life.

During a carotid artery ultrasound screening that Dr. Okamura recommended for all his patients, the technician observed a nodule on my thyroid that we learned was cancerous. The rare ultra early (stage 1B) diagnosis of what turned out to be medullary thyroid cancer set the stage for an equally rare total cure. Within seven weeks of diagnosis, a thyroidectomy removed the cancerous cells before they metastasized, adding years and quality to my life. Again, I was reminded of why I chose Dr. Okamura as my doctor.

It's been over three years since my cancer episode and two years since I moved out of state. But I still maintain Dr. Okamura as my primary care physician.
