My beloved doctor of over 30 years retired last year. Where I was incredibly happy for her, I was not sure about what my medical care was going to look like moving forward with a new doctor. I decided that at my first physical with my new doctor that I would just spill all my issues, big and small, to her so she would know what troubles me and just who I am.
She listened, her assistant took copious notes as we spoke. Then, when I had finished, she started to address each and every issue I had expressed. Without going into detail I will tell you that after that appointment, making changes to some medication, eating schedule and more, my life improved! I feel better than I have in years, have lost 16 pounds, gut health is much improved, and solutions are in place moving forward. What has the effect on me been, as a patient and person, is that I felt heard, understood and have a confidence in her quickly into our relationship. This is something I value a lot. I'm hopeful that I will continue to experience the same care and understanding as I move through the years.
Bottom line, being heard is such an important part of the doctor/patient relationship. I think I've got that with Dr. Botelho
