Battling with weight loss is an ongoing battle and one that gets even more important as you age. Carrying excess weight around leads to problems in many areas from joint pain to potential diabetes. Dr. Kenny Vu has continuously encouraged me over the years to pay more attention to my weight but he has always done it in a way that seeks to motivate and not demoralize. He has a gentle way to share the imperative. Five months ago he shared with me that I had the profile for someone who could try a drug typically prescribed for diabetics to go on temporarily. My A1-C numbers were not diabetic but they were higher than desirable. My BMI was in a range of concern so we had the discussion. I started the drug in September, 2023 and 5 months later I am down 30 pounds. In addition, I was encouraged to use the My Fitness Pal application for recording food intake. He wanted me to try to maintain 1200 calories daily (which I have done). I also walk daily at least two miles (the dog helps out there) and maintain some weight lifting and stretching routines. Dr. Vu shows a genuine care when we have our discussions and shares enthusiasm with my progress. I look forward to going off the drug soon. Hopefully, my new habits will stick without the added intervention of the daily drug (it slows down the digestive process and keeps you feeling full).
