Americans Fail the Fat IQ Quiz

Most Americans say they know how to eat right, but more than half scored a failing grade on a basic quiz about dietary facts and weight loss, according to a new survey conducted by MDVIP and Ipsos Public Affairs.

The survey shows that 82 percent of American adults weigh more than their ideal weight—mirroring a 30-year trend towards obesity, according to Centers for Disease Control and Prevention statistics. When it comes to shedding the pounds, 83 percent say that hearing from a doctor that they need to lose weight would motivate them – and 90 percent say they’d be influenced if their doctor told them they had a serious health risk. But only 20 percent of Americans say they’ve actually asked their primary care doctor for weight-loss help or advice.

Read on to learn more about the survey results and to test your own knowledge by taking the Fat IQ quiz.
