My Philosophy and Approach to Wellness...

For me, the practice of medicine is a calling and a privilege. My patients are family. My goal is that each day I will try to help improve the lives of my patients by crafting a personalized healthcare plan for wellness and prevention as well as the treatment of disease, when necessary, while providing a better patient experience.

In transforming to an MDVIP-affiliated practice, I will be able to continue to deliver  quality care in a more patient-centered environment, less influenced by institutionalized and government directed interference. My MDVIP-affiliated practice, often compared to a concierge medicine practice, also offers conveniences like same- or next-day appointments. As a board certified internal medicine physician with extensive experience in management of chronic illness such as congestive heart failure, women’s health issues, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, dementia and geriatrics, I have come to appreciate the focus on prevention and wellness. In my MDVIP-affiliated practice, more time and more resources will be available to me to better accomplish this goal and serve my patient community.

About the Practice/Practice News

Change is significantly affecting the healthcare landscape with ongoing implications for doctors and patients. It’s nearly impossible to navigate such a complex system alone, but with me as your ally, we can get through it together and keep you on the path to optimal health.

The best healthcare starts with a physician partner who truly knows you, your needs and your goals. In my MDVIP-affiliated practice, you come first. Third parties and red tape will not interfere with my ability to care for you the way you deserve.

Testimonials from patients of Dr. Needell

from Teresa in NC March 12, 2020 for James E. Needell, MD

I have had difficulties with my vascular areas. I was also a problem drinker (binge) for many years. Dr Nedell introduced me to SMART recovery. I had tried AA for years. Dr N is an out-of-the-box thinker & realizes that what might work for some, may not work for all. I’m extremely grateful. My labs have increasingly improved. My triglycerides which were near the 800s are now in the 300s.… See more

Dear Dr. Needell I would like to take this time to thank you for all your special time and your care for my husband and myself. I think sometimes people dont realize how much involvement is there for a Dr. Their hours are never like a normal 9 to 5, they are always on the clock missing time and quality time with their families to take care of their patients… See more

Dear Dr.Needell Thank you so much for being such a special Dr to me and my husband .We are so grateful to you for taking your time to take care of us. A Dr.s life is so busy and so demanding I think sometimes people just dont know what all that a Dr sacrifices for his patients. Giving up family time with his family and the long hours that are involved. It is not like a 9 to 5 job where you can… See more

from James in WV February 28, 2018 for James E. Needell, MD

I think Dr. Needell likes to tell people I was his patient before he was a doctor! It's true. We met during his residency at UVA 20+ years ago, clicked, and he's been my doctor ever since. Over the years he has stayed on top of my needs and he's never steered me wrong. He IS what being a doctor means.
