My Philosophy and Approach to Wellness...

I believe good medicine stems from a close doctor-patient relationship that revolves around longer appointments, strong communication, proactive patient involvement, and educated discussions about medical decisions. As your private doctor, I encourage you to share in the decision making process when it comes to your health and I strive to find an individual wellness plan for you, as no two patients are alike. All too often in modern medicine I feel that doctors are forced to practice “cookie cutter medicine”. As an MDVIP-affiliated physician, I am able to spend the necessary time needed to practice like an old-fashioned primary care doctor and develop a personal relationship with you.

As a family practice physician I am comfortable managing most conditions, but my special interests are in cardiovascular health, hypertension, dermatology, and hospital based medicine. I am one of a small number of primary care doctors in San Luis Obispo who has admitting privileges at both Sierra Vista Hospital and French Hospital. I regularly see and manage my patients when they are hospitalized, and because of this, I find they have a smooth transition to follow up care after being discharged from the hospital. I have numerous interactions and relationships with local specialists in San Luis Obispo to help you with your unique needs. I see patients from all over the central coast, including San Luis Obispo, Pismo Beach and the 5 Cities area, Nipomo, Santa Maria, Atascadero, Paso Robles, Morro Bay, Los Osos and Cayucos.

Testimonials from patients of Dr. Dunlop

from Jody in CA March 9, 2018 for Eric Dunlop, DO

I never thought I would find a doctor like Dr. Dunlop in this county! I have fibromyalgia and all the issues that go with it and he has taken it so seriously. He has been kind and smart and so sweet and personable which is so important to people with functional disorders. He is willing to try anything safe to help and he actually works with me to find solutions instead of speaking from on… See more

My story is pretty simple since I'm darn healthy. However, due to his thorough testing, Dr.Dunlop discovered that I had a hypo active thyroid without the usual symptoms. I have had other small questions, but his super staff fields everything and doesn't make you feel silly. I've always had an answer or an appointment within the calendar day. The new internet access will also be… See more

Thank you Dr. Dunlop!
You have fostered a trust and partnership with me in my healthcare. I appreciate your ability to listen and share your insights and experiences, but also your openness to let me choose the direction to proceed when challenges and questions arise.

from Christine in CA March 2, 2018 for Eric Dunlop, DO

I appreciate being taken off of a prescription medicine and using Pepcid instead. Also having my heart checked after a bout with pneumonia just to see. I like the thoroughness of exams.

from Chris in CA February 28, 2018 for Eric Dunlop, DO

Dr. Dunlop has showed me nothing other than that he genuinely cares and desires to help me be healthier. He listens to what my concerns are and talks with me about what options are available to address my concerns. He calls me personally to discuss test results and concerns he might have regarding my health. He is a down to earth person, has a good sense of humor, and makes me feel comfortable… See more

I came to see Dr. Dunlop broken and defeated. I have a wide range of medical problems, many are related to military service during the 2nd Iraq War. I spent nearly 8 years wandering the earth with absolutely no respect for Dr.s and Healthcare in general. I was failed by the VA & many many private practice Dr.s. I had given up with the idea that a good Dr. could make all the difference. Dr… See more
