My Philosophy and Approach to Wellness...

I grew up in a small town and strive to practice internal medicine like a small-town doctor. Each patient in my primary care practice is an individual who is cared for based on his or her individual needs. As your private doctor, my aim is to prevent disease and, if that is not possible, to be proactive and diagnose illness early and facilitate effective treatment. I get to know my patients well in order to accomplish these goals. A yearly, extensive wellness visit is the start of this process. This visit and all visits are unrushed and thorough.

I am board certified in internal medicine, cardiology, echocardiography and nuclear cardiology. I also provide advanced preventive screenings, including stress testing, echocardiography, vascular ultrasound and nuclear cardiology. I also offer conveniences, like same- or next-day appointments that start on time, which may be found in concierge medicine practices.

My office is located in Chevy Chase, Maryland - a short walk from the Friendship Heights stop on the Red Line. This location is convenient for patients from Washington, Maryland and Northern Virginia. I see patients at Sibley Hospital in Washington, D.C. and Suburban Hospital in Bethesda, Maryland (across the street from the National Institutes of Health). I was named by Washington Checkbook as a Top Doctor from 2005 to present and by Washingtonian as a Top Doctor from 2003 to present.

Dr. Kanovsky gives a thorough exam and listens. He interprets my bloodwork in an understandable way. He returns calls quickly. I don’t have any real problems at 83 and he is helping me continue healthy and enjoying life.

from Martin in MD March 27, 2023 for Martin Kanovsky MD FACC FACP

I was asymptomatic regarding any heart problems whatsoever. I had been competing in several Ironman competitions and wanted to climb Mt. Everest. In an abundance of caution Dr. kanovsky wanted me to take a Nuclear Stress Test. After the test, he and Dr. Flyer saw something they wanted to check out further. They ordered a Cardiac Catheterization and low and behold, found that my LAD was 85%… See more

from Nancy in MD March 14, 2020 for Martin Kanovsky MD FACC FACP

Dr. Kanovsky's understanding and willingness to take whatever time it took to discuss and explain meant as much to me as his clear medical knowledge and ability, I am most grateful for all of the above. He has shown that he not only cares for but cares!

from Stuart in DC March 12, 2020 for Martin Kanovsky MD FACC FACP

24/7 accessible and responsive! It gives myself and my wife great peace of mind to know that Dr. K always there to answer our inquiries no matter what the time of day or night. It is especially comforting to be included in his practice. Stu ✌️

from Jane in VA March 12, 2020 for Martin Kanovsky MD FACC FACP

Dr. Kanovsky treats every patient as a real person, not an ailing body part. He expresses interest in our lives, activities, and reading, as well as explaining our health tests in comprehensible detail. I have never had the feeling of being rushed. My blood pressure (lower number) is sometimes too high. He pauses, chats, retakes the pressure carefully, and the results are comforting! I would… See more

I have so many examples of Dr. Kanovsky stepping up to the plate and being an exceptional caring doctor who takes control of health issues and manages them. My wife and I were on a bike trip in Germany when I took a bad fall. It turns out that I had shattered my right wrist. Once my wrist had been X-rayed in a German hospital, we contacted Dr. Kanovsky and told him what happened. He took over… See more

from David in MD March 11, 2020 for Martin Kanovsky MD FACC FACP

Marty was with me every step of the way with my illness. Marty would call me regularly to see how I was doing. If I sent Marty and email he would reply generally within a few minutes. I've never, in all my life, experienced any doctor like Marty. He cared and constantly you were reminded he cared. It was like he accompanied me through my journey of getting better from my illness.

from Kathryn in MD March 10, 2020 for Martin Kanovsky MD FACC FACP

Our daughter was travelling out of the country and felt ill. She called us and we immediately said: "Call Dr. KANOVSKY." She did and talked her through her issues right away and calmed everyone down. No matter when you call - day or night, weekends or holidays, Dr. KANOVSKY has a quiet voice and calm compassion that makes it all better. We think he is the best!!

from Linda in MD February 29, 2020 for Martin Kanovsky MD FACC FACP

My husband was very ill this fall. Dr. Kanovsky never left a stone unturned. Even when he was in Paris - he communicated with us daily.
He is extremely responsive - I often joke that I can count to five - and he has returned my email or text. This type of care is rare and very much appreciated!!!
