My Philosophy and Approach to Wellness...

As a doctor of internal medicine, my philosophy is to partner with my patients to treat their health care problems and work to prevent new ones. I have practiced this personalized form of medicine for over 30 years in the Great Falls, Reston, Vienna communities and beyond. I have been rewarded with being the personal physician for many families, some for the length of my practice. I believe a long-term, doctor-patient relationship and time with patients to discuss their issues leads to the optimal health we all value.

My MDVIP-affiliated practice, similar to a concierge medical practice, allows me to spend more time with my patients and provide additional state-of-the-art screenings, in turn optimizing their risk evaluation and empowering them to make changes to improve their health at the time of their Annual Wellness Program.  As a team, patients and I formulate a plan to help them achieve their health goals. Nutrition and prevention have always been a large part of my life and practice as both my wife and youngest daughter are dietitians. My style of medicine offers nutrition consulting for prevention and to assist in the treatment of medical problems.

As a primary care doctor, board-certified in internal medicine, I treat various chronic conditions including hypertension, diabetes and hypothyroidism, as well as acute illness like the flu. When appropriate, I have professional relationships with many specialists to help with your unique needs. I am honored to be listed as a Top Doc in the Washingtonian, Northern Virginia Magazine and the Virginia Living.

LAB PANEL
Dr. Doerman will offer extensive lab and diagnostic tests focusing on important areas of risk for conditions such as heart disease, diabetes and thyroid disorders, among others. Risk for cardiovascular disease, for example, is addressed through a comprehensive heart and stroke screening assessment, which includes testing developed by Cleveland Clinic, the top heart institute in the nation. He will also use advanced tools to look at your brain health, including blood tests and Cognisense™, an innovative diagnostic screening program.

Your membership in Dr. Doerman’s practice also includes a Personalized Medication Program from CareKinesis. Adverse drug events are a leading cause of hospitalizations and deaths in the United States. Optimizing your regimen can also make the medications you take more effective and may even reduce the amount you need to take. Your doctor will work closely with pharmacists who are trained to identify medication risk. They will conduct reviews in order to lower your risk of adverse drug events. You will receive a personalized medication schedule that indicates how and when to take your medications to enhance safety.

PERSONAL WELLNESS PLAN
You and Dr. Doerman will discuss your test results in detail. Together, you’ll develop an individualized plan to manage or improve those results. You’ll be able to access the latest results of these tests through the MDVIP Connect website and app.
