While on vacation in Mexico, I awoke one morning with blisters on my nose beside my eye, on my eyelid and along my lash line. One of my friends traveling with me was a nurse who said it looked like shingles to him. I immediately texted Dr. Barreto's cell number. She asked for a pic which I texted back to her and she agreed it looked like shingles. Being in Mexico, she could not write a prescription but prescriptions are not required in Mexico. She gave me the name of the medication needed and told me to get it as quickly as possible then go to the emergency room as soon as I returned to the states. I called the hotel concierge who in turn contacted a pharmacy in town. They did not have it but called 3 more pharmacies until it was found. It was delivered to my hotel and I had my first dose by dinner that night. Once back in the states I went to the emergency room who immediately sent me to an eye specialist. After looking at me, the specialist just pushed his chair back, shook his head and said, "You are one lucky lady! If that had moved into the eye itself it would have attacked the optical nerve and you would have lost sight in that eye and there would have been nothing I could have done to help you." Because of my ability to contact Dr. Barreto immediately, even though I was out of the country, and her prompt response I still have vision in that eye. That would not be the case had I had a regular doctor and had to wait for weeks or months to get an appointment. Dr. Barreto saved my eyesight. I am eternally grateful.
