Caught 7 out of 100k

During my annual physical a few years ago, my blood work showed an anomaly, especially since I am very healthy (no cholesterol issues, no BP issues, no sugar issues, etc., etc.). Dr. Anders had me repeat the test 3x thinking it was a mistake (perhaps lab errors which unfortunately DO happen) and even utilized diff lab but alas, results were still there.

Referred me to a highly respected Hematologist. Turns out I have Polycythemia Vera. No cure as it's caused by a gene(JAK 2) that has mutated. In my case, I'm fortunate that I have no symptoms and is treated with regular phlebotomies. The hematologist said that when polycythemia vera activates, if not treated, can poss kill you within 18-24mo. It's also a condition that only afflicts 7 out of every 100k. Very rare.

Dr. Anders' diligence and steadfast annual frequency of annual physical with blood work saved me.
